IMPHAL, December 12: Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol has celebrated “Shija Annual Meet-2012”under the theme “Partnership in medical tourism” today at its premises.

The function was attended by Minister of Education, CAF and PD M Okendro Singh as chief guest, Minister of Works and Transport Dr Kh Ratan Kumar as guest of honour, and Chairman cum Managing Director of Shija Hospitals Dr Kh Palin as president.

During the function Dr Kh Ratan Kumar said the main road leading to Shija Hospitals will be properly maintained. Imphal-Myanmar highway (Moreh road) will also be well maintained to reduce the inconveniences faced by the people of Myanmar while coming here to get medical treatment.

He further said effective hospitals like Shija is giving huge contribution to the nation for which we took the pride. It will be more beneficial if the theme could be converted into action.

M Okendro Singh exhorted that the state should not depend on other states in terms of education and healthcare. There is a stereotype among the people that getting medical treatment in other states is better. However, even if the mechanic is well skilled, the work depends on the equipments.

People say that treatment at Shija is expensive however they spend whatever amount asked for in outer states. We are getting world class medical treatment at our doorstep at Shija, he added.

He further said the government has intention to support the PPP model. There is also plan to donate blood from minimum 500 people of Heirok A/C. Shija has tied up with Sharva Shiksa Abhiyan for “smile train” which will treat the patients without charging treatment fee and transportation charges. The government will try to expedite the process.

Shija has shown green signal for some offers for treatment under all India rate. This will encourage people to get medical treatment here instead of going outside the state, he added.

The minister continued to say that there is a need for street lighting on the road that leads to Shija. The task of street lighting will be my responsibility.

He also appealed the people to cooperate and said that it is time that we call back our doctors and teachers working in other states in order to make our land which is not dependent on other states.

Dr Kh Palin as president of the occasion said Shija is trying to improve the economy and healthcare of the state and the nation as a whole. There should not be any compromise in healthcare. Keeping in view of the state population there is a need for 6000 beds at present which will provide employment to 180000 people in the state.

The government of India is appealed to provide medical visa on spot like that done in Kolkata so that patients from Myanmar could come here for their treatment. Myanmar is a country where we can sell our product, he added.

He also said that there are plans for treatment of government employees and BPLs in the hospital.
