Imphal, Dec 19: Manipur Assembly today paid obituary reference to the demise of former Prime Minister, I K Gujral, former CM of Manipur, W Nipamacha, former members Md Allaudin Khan, Md Abdul Wahid and L Kerani.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh said the 12th Prime Minister of India, IK Gujral was the second person who assumed office of Prime Minister as Member of Rajya Sabha. He said Gujral took part in the freedom struggle movement and was jailed during the 1942 Quit India movement. He narrated a brief political history of Gujral and expressed grief of his demise.
He said former CM of Manipur W. Nipamacha who recently expired was an outspoken leader who took some bold decisions during his stint as Chief Minister. He said Nipamacha organised National Games, implemented new pay scale for employees and strengthened Other Backward Classes department. He said Md Allauddin Khan served as minister under him during the last two government and worked hard to improve the conditions of the minorities.
Ibobi reminded the House that Md Allauddin Khan tried to reform the education system in the Madrasas by incorporating modern education. Speaker I Hemochandra, Opposition leader Dr L Ibohabi, I Hemochandra, Minister, Md Nasir, Minister, Amin Shah, Parliamentary Secretary, M Prithviraj, Parliamentary Secy, Ng Bijoy, TN Haokip, Thamarjit, O Lukhoi and other members paid obituary reference to the departed leaders. Members observed two minute silence to pay respect to the departed leader. The two day winter session of the Manipur Assembly which began today was adjourned till 11 am of tomorrow by the Speaker without taking up any further business for the day.
