IMPHAL, Aug 22: Taking serious note of the police excesses meted out to the student hunger strikers who were admitted to RIMS Hospital after they were pulled up by police from different places, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Students`™ Wing has demanded clarification from Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who holds the portfolio of Home on the incident at the earliest.

In a statement, the JCILPS Students`™ Wing reiterated that people have been demanding implementation of ILPS or similar law to regulate the huge inflow of outsiders into the State but the government has been sidelining the people`™s demand which is unacceptable.

The ILPS protestors including students are being mishandled and ill-treated by the police, the statement said.

They are just demanding introduction of ILPS or similar law, it continued.

The government has been asked repeatedly to direct the police not to commit excesses against the ILPS protestors who include students but it is still continuing, it said.

The Students`™ Wing in the statement cautioned that if the police excesses against the protestors is not stopped then many unwanted incidents may arise thereof.
