IMPHAL, September 26: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today lauded the efforts of the Thoubal Zilla Parishad, the Khangabok Gram Panchayat and officials of the State Adult Education department on their receiving the Saakshar Bharat Award 2015 on the occasion of International Literacy Day 2015 held at Bigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on September 8.
A statement issued by the DIPR said the Chief Minister handed over the Award to the Adhyaksha of the Thoubal Zilla Parishad Kh Surnalata Devi in a simple felicitation function held at the CM’s office complex today.
It may be recalled that the award was presented by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and was received by the Education minister M Okendra Singh on the International Literacy Day 2015 on September 8 at New Delhi organised by the National Literacy Mission Authority, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, it said.
Khangabok Part II, Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District, Manipur was awarded Saakshar Bharat Award for Best Performing Gram Panchayat along with four other Gram Panchayats from other States of the country, it said.
This year altogether 11 Saakshar Bharat Awards were distributed by the President of India to States, Districts, Blocks, Gram Panchayats, State Resource Centres (SRC) and Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS) for best performance in the field of adult education and skill development, the statement continued.
Education Minister M Okendra Singh, Khangabok MLA O Landhoni Devi, Adult Education principal secretary BB Sharma, officials of Adult Aducation department and members of Thoubal Zilla Parishad and pradhans and members of Khangabok GP were also present on the function.
