Propagate commerce education in State, HoD urges faculties

IMPHAL, November 14: A two day workshop on `Recent Development in Commerce Education` being organized jointly by Department of Commerce, Manipur University and Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI), New Delhi was inaugurated at the Conference Hall of the Department of Commerce, Manipur University today.

Prof. H. Nandakumar Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University; H. Deleep Singh, Secretary Education (S), Government of Manipur and Dr. A Rajmani Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Manipur University graced the occasion as chief guest, president and workshop coordinator respectively.

The inaugural function of the workshop was taken part by 53 participants who are lecturers and Assistant Professors from various Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges and University of valley and hill districts of Manipur.

Prof. A. Rajmani Singh, Head, Department of Commerce, Manipur University while delivering welcome as well as the key note address requested to all the commerce faculties in the State to give more emphasis on propagation of commerce education in the State.

In his speech, Prof. H. Nandakumar Sarma asked all the teachers teaching commerce subjects to work together so that they can attract more students in the commerce stream in the State.

He also highlighted the importance of tax payment for the development of the country and the opportunity lying ahead among the commerce students to work as tax consultants.

In the advent of India`™s Act East Policy, commerce stream should take special responsibility in developing human resources that could face the upcoming challenges, he said.

He also said that there is a need for special emphasis to impart knowledge about Foreign Trade, Export/Import mechanism and other professionals in commerce like Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost and Work Accountant under ICWA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Company Secretary (CS), Income tax consultant, etc.

H. Deleep Singh emphasized on the development of commerce education in the State with special attention towards the commerce education in higher secondary level.

He said that we have come through the darkest period of the history of Manipur, but now light started showering on us.

He also said that the youths who were working in other parts of the country now have a tendency to come back in the state.

We need to broaden the employability in the State in order to accommodate them also. Even though rewards may not be higher, but most of the commerce graduates and masters are being employed in government as well as private sector firms, he asserted.

The function closed with a vote of thanks from Prof. G.P. Prasain, Department of Commerce, Manipur University.
