More condemn

Komrem Union, North East India has vehemently condemned the killing of Nengneingah Khongsai (16) who was shot dead by a cadre of KNA at Gilgan village, Moreh on July 23.
In a press release, the union regretted the rampant crime against women and children in the State.
All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) also expressed strong condemnation on the killing of the girl who was a Class IX student.
The association, in a press release demanded the State Government to come up with measures to tackle the rising crime against women and children in the State.
It also demanded exemplary punishment be awarded to the killer at the earliest.

The Principal of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, Nongmeibung, Konthoujam Sumati, has said the school authority will try to bring an amicable solution regarding the incident of a fight between some of its students, by having a dialogue among the parents and guardians of the students and the school authority.
Speaking to media persons at the school premise today, Sumati expressed belief that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding and appealed to all the student organisations concerned to refrain from taking part in the issue.
Terming the incident as unfortunate, she said that at 11 am tomorrow, the school authority will organise a meeting with the students who were involved in the issue as well as their parents and guardians to try and bring an amicable solution.
She further said that the school will not be responsible for any future incidents if any students, parents or guardians fail to reach the school by the stipulated time.

IMPHAL, Jul 25:A winger heading from Imphal to Chassad met with a grave accident today at around 10. 05 am when it took a sharp turn and collided with a truck laden with wooden logs coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the accident was such that the winger was thrown away by around 10 meters. Hearing about the accident, a team of 17 Assam Rifles headed by ARMO Asst Comdt Robin Goyal rushed to the location and provided necessary first aid to the injured, a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S) informed.
Out of the ten passengers that were travelling in the winger, four were critically injured and two had minor injuries. The injuries varied from major and minor cuts, head injuries, torn muscles to internal injuries. Wherever necessary, stitches were applied. Four of the injured were given complete treatment and sent back to their villages. Remaining two were referred to Imphal for further management after providing necessary first aid, it added.

NEDF concerned over flood

IMPHAL, Jul 25: North East Dialogue Forum has urged the concerned authority to establish special independent team to investigate the function of NHPC and NEEPCO and violation of the guideline of operating the projects which cause the grave human right situation in Assam and Manipur this year.
In a statement, NEDF demanded that the Loktak project in Manipur and Ranganadi Pare project be de-commissioned at the earliest. This year people in the valley in Manipur face grave situation of unusual flood four times. Many villages in the Imphal valley had to relocate their habitation more than four times.
The difficulties faced by the people specially the women, children, disable etc are imaginable. One of the most important reasons for such hardship face by the people is Ithai Barrage under the Loktak Hyro Power project. The NHPC failed to open the gate of the Ithai barrage where half of the valley are under water. The management and staff of NHPC/ NEEPCO are more concerned about their profits from which they got their salary at the cost of people’s lives and suffering, NEDF said.

Clubs seek Govt’s attention on death due to Scrub Typhus

IMPHAL, Jul 25: The Eastern Star Club and Young Defence Club, Sekmaijin have appealed to the State Government to look into the death of a 22 year old youth, who died yesterday due to Scrub Typhus.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, Youth Defence Club president Elangbam Tiken and secretary of Eastern Star Club, Wahengbam Mangang said that the youth, identified as one Huidrom Bishwamitra from Sekmaijin died of Scrub Typhus, an illness caused by an insect of the same name and which is mainly found in the hills and surfaces during heavy floods.
They pointed out that the victim’s family spent a large amount of money shifting the victim though three reputed hospitals namely JNIMS, Raj Medicity and Shija Hospital and further appealed to the State Government to provide necessary compensation as the disease is the result of the recent flood which the State Government has already labelled a natural calamity.

IMPHAL, Jul 25: The Joint Tribal Students’ Union (JTSU) has decried the alleged assault on Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy Tribal Students’ Union president Mimin Baite by office bearers of the school’s student union.
Speaking to media persons at New Lambulane yesterday, Mimin Baite said that he was assaulted by some students inside the school’s toilet this afternoon on the charge of keeping away tribal girl students from the protest rally taken out by students of the academy on July 22 against transfer of teachers. Condemning the incident, JTSU secretary general Lalboi Touthang has urged the Government to take up befitting action against the assailants.
He further said that tribal students studying in Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy would be asked not to attend their school from tomorrow in denunciation of the assault.
