A dead body suspected to have died of over drug dose was found today around 4.30 pm near M.I Road at Iroipat Loukol that lies between Thoubal Sabaltongba and Moijing under Thoubal police station.

Sources said the dead body is believed to be of one Sanasam Ngongo, (23) son of Birgopal from Thoubal Sabaltongba Awang Leikai.  Police have collected the body for the procedure of post mortem.

The students hold the key to a better future said Works Minister Th.Biswajit while speaking as the chief guest at the annual fresher’s meet cum literary and cultural meet held today at Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School.

The present is most important in fashioning a better tomorrow. We have to create our future today the Works Minister said. We need to be hard working and have patience in order to achieve our goal he said.

The minister further advised the students to have aims and aspirations, and learn how to achieve them. The youth play the most important role to bring development in our society he added.

He further mentioned that no one will stand for us so we have to be hard working to achieve our goal. Of all the resources, human resource is the most important he said.

Minister Biswajit explained the importance of education and sustainable development. Development is possible only when we eradicate illiteracy he added.

He further assured to find a way to bring drinking water facilities in the school campus. The minister wished the students a grand success in all their future endeavours.

 Education Minister Th. Radheshyam attended the function as the president. He said that the students are the future of the people and they have to give the people a bright. He said that the youths today are full of ideas and talents and the people have confidence in them to bring a better future to the state.

He assured to make TG Higher Secondary School one of the best schools in the country.  The students today have far more ideas talents and have the potentials to bring changes in the society he said.

He further assured to look into the necessities of the school, and the hostel building will be finished at the earliest. He said that construction of smart classroom or auditorium in the school campus are in the pipeline.

He said that teachers are the guides of the students. He further appealed the students to respect their teachers as they are the backbone to pave a way for the brighter future of the student.

The function was also attended by the director of education Th. Kirankumar Principal TG Higher Secondary School, L. Biren Singh.

Songs and other cultural dance items were the highlights of the programme. Prizes were distributed to toppers of the school.

On behalf of government of Manipur, the chief minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh has extended his hearty congratulations to the boxing champion and MP of Rajya Sabha, M.C. Mary Kom for winning her fifth gold medal in Asian Boxing Championship 2017 in Vietnam.

The chief minister has also stated that has brought laurels for the state and the nation and Manipur is proud of her accomplishments.

Chief Minister  N. Biren Singh has assured the students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur to extend all possible help in solving their grievances.

The Chief Minister visited the campus of NIT Manipur and inspected different blocks, labs, hostels and classrooms of the Central Government Institute at Lamphelpat today.

He also interacted with NIT authority and students to discuss the grievances of the students.

Regarding students’ concern about their security, the Chief Minister said that he had requested the higher authority of CRPF to depute a team of the Central paramilitary force at the campus.

He exhorted the students to stay calm and feel at home because the State Government is ready to extend all possible help in maintaining a good and peaceful academic atmosphere at the campus.

Biren also provided his personal mobile phone numbers to students and asked them to inform him directly if they have any problem.

Biren also told the students that he had apprised Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar about the inadequacies of the Institute and students’ demands.

The Chief Minister further informed that  Prakash Javadekar had responded positively to his request of sending a Central inspection team to the Institute.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister also instructed the NIT authority to attend to students’ grievances and inform the State Government about any problem on time in future.

The JAC of All Manipur Police Constable Male Civil Viva Voice Completed Candidate, 2016 (fresh batch) has call off the general strike they earlier called in the state from November 10 till 13.

Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal the JAC’s general secretary, Manichandra Chanambam appreciated chief minister, N.Biren for assuring to declare their recruitment results to not spoil their future careers.

He said that the JAC was grateful to the media for making their voices and demands heard by the government.

The JAC appealed to the government to be effective in any government job recruitment as it holds the future of many individual.

In another development the All Manipur DPC Completed Re-recruitment Candidates of Police Constable Male, 2013 Batch has also postponed the 24-hours state width total shutdown which was to start from midnight today.

Speaking to media persons the JAC’s president, A. Binoy said that the total shutdown was postponed after the government gave assurance that they will fixed the date of declaring the result on November 14.

He appealed to the government to make the assurance “last and final” in consideration of the sufferings of the candidates.

Home parliamentary secretary, L. Susindro said that their result were held up as there was a case in the court regarding the recruitment process.

He said that the government will discuss the matter on November 14 to bring an amicable solution to end the sufferings of the candidates.

Coming out strongly against anti-Demonitisation campaign of the opposition, chief minister N. Biren Singh, has branded those voicing their dissent against the Demonitisation as a bunch of distressed black marketeer, money launderer, individuals possessing black money etc.

The chief minister was addressing media persons during a press conference convened at the BJP office today in connection with “Anti-black money day” observance to mark the first anniversary of Demonitisation.

Biren said the so called anti-Demonitisation campaign launched by the opposition parties is nothing but a political gimmick to mislead the masses in the wake of the approaching assembly election in some of the states in the country.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out Demonitisation with the objective to curb black money to improve the country’s economy. And, it was inevitable that people had to endure some difficulties in the process to cleanse the chronic disease corrupting the systems for decades, he asserted.

Nevertheless, today Demonitisation has brought about a huge economic reform by roping crores of rupees stashed abroad.

“It is obvious that black marketeers, those who have black money etc. will be upset with the Demonitisation as it has taken a heavy toll on them”, he opined.

According to the CM, the capitalists that comprise 10 percent of the entire population are against Demonitisation while the time has come for the common men to rejoice.

He further maintained that the lives of the common people will change for the better once the Government of India is able to rope in huge amount of money stashed outside the country as a result of Demonitisation.

The chief minister stated that the government of India has sanctioned Rs. 25,000 crore for development of road communications for Manipur. Moreover, it has able to provide free medicines, housing loans and free gas connection to thousands, he said while attributing it to Demonitisation.

He appealed to the public to support the BJP and the drive against black money for a better future.

CM Biren also advised businessmen, black marketeers to stay away from politics in the interest of the country.

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Manipur president, Ksh. Bhabananda, said that all are aware that the objective of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to bring a clean and efficient system in the country.

Demonetisation being an important step in that direction, it has been able to bring about a conversion of the non-formal economy into a formal economy, he asserted.

He observed that by 2018 with the current pace the country will move forward and attain new heights.

Marking the anniversary of Demonetisation the BJP launched a campaign under the banner “Anti-black money” observance since yesterday. As a part of the campaign the BJP Manipur will organize a rally in Imphal tomorrow.

Minister of Information and Public Relations, Thongam Biswajit Singh has congratulated star boxer and member of Rajya Sabha, Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte on winning gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship by defeating Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the summit clash on Wednesday at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The minister said that Mary Kom has made the state and the whole country proud again with another stellar performance at the world stage. He has also wished her success in all her future endeavours.

A 50-bedded hospital located at Ningsingkhul, Jiribam is allegedly running without any authority looking after it.

The OPD of the hospital remained closed today due to the absence of doctors whereas the patients who came to the hospital for the needs of medical care went back disheartened.

According to sources, the doctor whose name was mentioned in the today’s roster of OPD, is reportedly engaged as a District Immunisation Officer (DIO) at the former CHC complex of Babupara which is presently used as CMO office.

In connection with this, media persons tried to talk with the chief medical officer, and learnt that he had left for Imphal yesterday. Later when the media person tried to contact the CMO on his mobile contact number, it was found to be switched off.

It might be recalled that the OPD of the hospital was also shut down recently by the public of Jiribam, expressing discontentment over the activities of the hospital and lack of amenities.

 While media person visited the hospital today to communicate with the concerned doctor regarding the closing down of hospital OPD, the efforts were in vain as there was no any doctor available to discuss the matter.

The state capital today saw a new kind of political campaign with political parties with their symbols and flags and caps taking to the streets not for election but to denounce the BJP government’s disastrous demonetisation ofRs.500 and Rs.1000 last year on November 8, ruining many small businesses.

Organised by state’s All Opposition Political Parties Against Demonetisation, hundreds and thousands of supporters and workers of all opposition parties took to the streets in an observation they called “Black Day”.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Forward Block (AIFP), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI (Marxist), Indian National Congress (INC), Janata Dal-Secular [JD(S)], National Congress Party (NCP) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) took part in the observance.

Briefing reporters before the start of the public demonstration, former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that this observation of Black Day is symbolic and is a sign of total retaliation against the BJP’s rule in the Centre as well as at the State.

He highlighted the negative impacts of Demonetisation and other equally controversial policies such as GST, mandatory Aadhar linkage among other.

He also said that the economy has not improved after the BJP and in fact has worsened with the coming of Demonetisation and GST.

A public meeting was held after rally demonstration at Iboyaima Shanglen, Palace Compound.

In his keynote address, the convener of the organising committee, Govindas Konthoujam said that Demonetisation has created countrywide chaos and even taken lives of 150 people.

Demonetisation has also completely failed to rein in black money and has instead become a new and sinister technique to suppress the poorer sections of the population.

Prime Minister Modi has termed Demonetisation as a surgical strike against black money and terrorism but in fact it turned out to be the ‘biggest financial scam’ in India’s history that made five Gujarati industrialists richer and rest of the country poorer, Govindas noted.

Two minute silence was observed today during the event in remembrance of those 150 people who lost their lives in the Demonetisation crisis.

Convener of AITC, Soraisam Manaoton noted that there had been Demonetisation in the nation’s history in 1946 and 1978 but the one in 2016 was the most chaotic ever.

Demonetisation without consultations with experts and officials concerned, and pushed solely on the whim of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undemocratic, and demonstrated the latter’s dictatorial inclinations, he added.

Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam labelled the performance and the steps taken up by the BJP-led government as “disastrous in achieving their pet slogan of ‘ache din’ till today” and that their term is almost nearing an end.

He further stated demonetisation and GST have brought only negative impacts to our society. “Nobody can deny that the BJP government’s plans and policies decreased investment trends, eliminate many small scale industries, and reduce employment generation among others,” he said.

Considering and comparing their acts and failed promises, he labelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “father of all lies”.

Recalling the period of 2014 general election, ex-chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that BJP promised to generate jobs and uproot corruption from our nation. However the two disastrous reforms i.e, Demonetisation and GST prove them wrong. Five million people lost their jobs, 151 people died, and they did not even succeed in digging out black money.

MLA of Saikot constituency, T.N. Haokip declared the resolutions taken by all opposition political parties at the end of the convention that November 8 will always be regarded as “Black Day”.

He also said that they will abide by the nine demands declared today and to work collectively to restore the losses suffered by the people of Manipur under the BJP-led government.

The nine demands included, right to choose how we spend money through cash or card, compensation to all those who lost their lives standing in queues, immediate publishing of the names of all the Swiss bank account holders and bringing back illegal or black money, and fulfilling of the promise that every Indian will get Rs.15 lakh in their bank accounts.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 2.5 kg was found in front of Punya Hyundai showroom at Nagaram, Imphal East today morning at around 9.30 am.

Police said a security personnel of the showroom found the bomb planted at the entrance gate of the showroom, wrapped inside a plastic bag.

The showroom authority immediately informed the police and later at around 10.30 am the Manipur Police Bomb Squad arrived and safely retrieved the bomb.
