Two smugglers were apprehended by 11 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector AR in a frisking at a mobile vehicle check post near KLP location, Moreh, said a release by PRO IGAR (South).
It said, the arrested smugglers have been identified as Gopal Karki, 34, son of Dambar Bahadur Karki of Hangbung IT Camp, Kangpokpi district and H. Doshusa, 33, daughter of Hepuni of Chowainamei Khullen, Senapati district.
Seven bags containing contraband forest items, Parish/Nepali Setu, weighing approximately 278 kg and worth about Rs 13, 92,500, along with Pangolin shells valued about Rs. 45, 000 were seized from the smugglers. Further, 27 kg of Ginseng priced approximately Rs 1, 62,600 were also recovered, said the release.
The apprehended individuals and the recovered items were handed over to the forest department, Moreh, it added.
