IMPHAL, April 30: The Special Olympics Bharat-Manipur Chapter has said in a press release that it will be organising the 3rd State Games for persons with disabilities from May 8-10 at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex covering only Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Chandel Districts.

The games will be conducted under the rules of Special Olympics Bharat, Paralympics Committee of India and All India Sports Council for the Deaf in the disciplines of Athletics, Aquatics, BOCCE, Badminton and Football (5-a side). The competition will be held for males and females of the age groups of Sub-Junior (8-10 years), Junior (12-16 years) and Senior (17 years to above), the press release stated further.

Athletes with different category of disability, coaches, care takers and parents are participating. The participants of the State Games are eligible for the National Games, 2014 to be held at Odissa, said the Sports Director.

IMPHAL, April 30: The personnel of 41 Assam Rifles and HQ 10 Sector has helped to recover a civil Scorpio car which had went off the road near BRTF camp, Ukhrul on the afternoon of April 29.

According to a press statement from PRO HQ IGAR (S), the ill fated vehicle had gone nearly 100 meters down the hill slope. One occupant was seriously injured. However, when a Shaktiman truck had failed to pull back the vehicle, civil authorities had sought the help of HQ 10 Sector AR who came to the spot with the recovery vehicle.

The vehicle was pulled back after nearly one hour of painstaking effort by a team of 41 AR, said the press statement.

LAMKA, April 30 : The locals of Mission Veng of Lamka are happy to get a blacktopped road for the first time. Mission Veng is located just near the Hiangtam colony. The road has been made possible by the contractor PG Tongthang, who also hails from the same locality. He has used the right amount of Bitumen in laying the road.

The locals of Mission Veng are happy with the contractor for his sincere effort. Talking to this reporter, the contractor said that the road has been blacktopped with funds from Minister PhungzathangTonsing. He was assigned to work in other roads like EBC campus, Ebenezar, Dorcas  andLametnamun.

The contractor shared his happiness that the people of Mission Veng are satisfied with his work. This is because of the fact that he has done his work without looking for profits only out of contract works.

The locals are so pleased with his work that they have named the road in the contractor`s name.

LAMKA, April 30 : The Kuki Student Organisation(KSO) of CCpr district, today in a statement have said that they are deeply concern overthe  power cut in the district.

The information secretary, L. MinlalGangte, of the organisation said in the statement that they are upset by the laidback attitude of the department.The organisation appeals the electricity department to keep their promise of restoring electric power in five days` time.

The KSO further appeals that the department must   compensated for the power lost during the five days power cut. The organisation maintained that the lost can be compensated by adding two hours of power supply to the previous eight hours of supply per day.

KSO has also demanded shifting of the office of EE CCpur, from Imphal to Lamka, so that he can take care of his work effectively. The statement urges the department to look into their demand, failing which the organisation will not remain silent.

IMPHAL, April 30: The DM College of Science Students` Union has said in a press release that absence of regular principals in government colleges has led to the drawback of higher studies in the State.

In a statement, the Union said that lack of interest shown by teachers is due to absence of regular principal. Because of lack of institutes for advanced studies, rich students avail studies outside of Manipur while many are left to waste. Although many notices regarding the problem were put up, the results were always the same.

The Union appeals to the concerned authorities to appoint regular principals for the colleges within forty days and threaten to take up actions if the concerned authorities failed to do so.
