IMPHAL, November 11: Locals of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai JAC and members of various civil society organisations today staged a sit-in-protest against the killing of 32-year-old Moirangthem ningol RK ongbi Janeshori, wife of Sanatomba.

According to protestors, on November 2 last, she was killed and later suspended inside her own room to make it appear like she had hanged herself. The JAC formed against the alleged murder is demanding befitting punishment for the alleged accused in the murder case at the earliest.

Speaking to media person at the sideline of the demonstration, a woman protestor said the killing of Janeshori constitutes a crime against women which is on the rise in the state. She alleged that Janeshori was killed by her husband on November 2 and later hung from ceiling fan to cover up the crime.

It may be mentioned that 32-year-old Janeshori was found hanging inside a room at her house at Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai, Tomal Leirak at around 3.15 pm on November 2.

The house was destroyed by the locals on November 4 morning and the body of Janeshori was claimed by her parents after conducting a post mortem at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and the last rite was performed at her parental home.

IMPHAL, November 11: The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), a think tank of the Japanese government is sponsoring a workshop on Myanmar’s Integration with Asian Economies: Challenges and Prospects – in their research centre, Bangkok Research Forum, situated in Bangkok, said a source.

The Economists from Singapore, China, Japan and Myanmar are going to deliberate on the theme on November 15, 2013. From India, Professor Amar Yumnam of Manipur University will speak at the workshop, the source further said.

IMPHAL, November 11: The Media Coordination of CorCom, H Poirei today in a press release said that they have been informed by the business community of demanding monetary help in the name of CorCom in certain area of Manipur.

In this regard, the Coordination Committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF & UNLF clarified that the CorCom has so far not asked for financial help to anybody, it said and adding that those individuals who are posing as CorCom is fake one and does not have any relation with CorCom, it said.

The press release further requested the people of Manipur not to respond to the fake demand, and further announcing that CorCom will give them befitting punishment, it said.

IMPHAL, November 11: Major General Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South) flagged off  the second leg of the Royal Riders bike rally as a  promotional campaign for the forthcoming Sangai Festival  from Hotel  Imphal  to Ukhrul district  today.

In his address to the Royal Riders he said that  it was a great privilege to be associated with the promotion and publicity campaign of the prestigious Sangai  festival.

The State Level Festival which strives to showcase the uniqueness and the diversity that the State has  to offer in terms of arts and culture, indigenous games and sports, handloom and handicrafts is also instrumental in bringing the people  of the State and the country together.

He added that the Royal Riders are the messengers of brotherhood and peace who have come together from different walks of life and professions and have given a new meaning to the passion of  bike riding by taking up philanthropic activities like goodwill tours, rallies for a cause, charitable events such as health and environment, child rights, disaster management, art and culture and above all spreading the message of peace and brotherhood. He assured that Assam Rifles  is committed in its efforts to promote the spirit of peace and brotherhood which the Sangai Festival and Royal Riders so truly embodies.

The riders are scheduled to visit other districts inclusive of Chadel, Tamenglong and Senapati before the commencement of the Sangai festival which is to begin from November 21 onwards for ten days.
