IMPHAL, January 21: A sit-in-protects was held today at Tharo Devi Community Hall of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai against land acquisition from Lamlong Baza to Khurai Heikrumakhong.

Speaking to media persons during the protest, Y Hemo Singh said that the land acquisition is condemned by the locals; before adding that even though the government can acquire government land, the land acquisition should not be more than 40 feet.

He said the land acquisition at Lamlong to Heikrumakhong is 100 feet which is highly condemnable and objectionable.

He said even though the road widening is necessary, 100 feet acquisition for the construction of a state highway along the riverbank is impossible.

The government could widen the road towards the river’s side, as the land acquisition would affect more than 150 houses.
