IMPHAL, January 13: The members of the All Manipur Bar Association and Bench expressed grief and sorrow on the sudden demise of KhundrakpamGeetabali Devi, advocate of LangthabalLepMayaiLeikai.

Along with a two minute silence observed in the memory of the departed, court work of the District and Sessions judge, Manipur East and Manipur West, Special Court (ND and PS), revenue Tribunal and Family Court and other subordinate courts remained suspended for today. The Thoubal and Bishnupur Bar Associations also observed the condolence meeting, a statement by U Kol Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East said.

IMPHAL, Jan 12: A two member team of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA), Government of India led by Ajoy Chadha, Special Secretary, MHA and RN Rabi, Special Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) will be arriving in the state capital to take stock of law and order situation of the state in connection with the ensuing 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to the state which is scheduled to held on January 28.

According to an official source, the visiting officials soon after arrival in the Imphal will convened a meeting with district administrators of hill districts.

IMPHAL , January 12: Two persons suspected to be underground elements were  gunned down in an encounter at Tabungkhok to Yurembam road under Patsoi police station, Imphal West at about 7.15 pm today.

The encounter took place with a combined team of Imphal West , Imphal East commandos and 18 Sikh Regiment.

Two 9mm pistols with several live rounds and three Chinese made handgrenades were recovered from the possession of the slain cadres.

IMPHAL, January 12: Condemning the bomb attack on congress worker T. Yaima  yesterday evening by unknown persons suspected to be CorCom activists, a sit-in –protest was observed at SagolbandMeinoLeirak multipurpose community hall today.

Speaking to media persons , one  L Radhesana said that the women folks of the Sagolband areas strongly condemn the act of terrorizing the general public.

She further appealed to the concerned not to repeat similar act in future in the interest of the public, “we want peace, but not bombs”, she added.

IMPHAL, January 12: Discovering the movement of UG cadres at Top Chingtha of Thoubaldistrict,troops of 15 AR launched an operation in the said area and apprehended one KCP(MC) cadre today. The person is identified as s/s finance secretary , H Tomba Singh alias BamonTomba, 47, s/o H ibotombi of Yairipok Top Chingtha.

In yet another incident, troops of 18 SIKH and 23 AR launched a joint operation at TakyelKhongbal and apprehended two UG cadres today. The apprehendees have been identified as s/s Sgt Major LaishramBir Singh 36, of Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai,No.1246 of 2004 batch of the KCP (MC). The other cadre is identified as private Longjam Anand,42, resident of TakyelKhongbal and is a cadre of KYKL,No.4762. Both have been handed over to the respective police stations, a release said.

Disclosing this information today, former minister D.P Panmei and social activist Romeo Bungdon said they had resigned from the membership of the NPF on personal ground.

“We tender our resignation from the membership of Naga People`s Front (NPF) with effect from January 2, 2012 on personal ground,” said the joint note of D.P Panmei and Romeo Bungdon addressed to the NPF president of Manipur unit.

IMPHAL, Jan 11 (NNN): Jesus Gospel Ministry, North East India on Wednesday earnestly appealed to all sections of the society, including social leaders, Christian leaders, politicians and all the believers to pray to Almighty to create a peaceful atmosphere for the upcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

Director of the Ministry Ashang Kasar appealed to all to prevent from corruption, crimes, threats and using drugs during the elections and urged to all to work in the spirit of a Christian to make free and fair elections.

The director of the Ministry also appealed to the people to bring a good society and work for peace and tranquility in Manipur and that indulging in corruption, crimes, alcohol and threats is not the act of Christianity but instead it betrays the Almighty God.

IMPHAL Jan 11: The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has clarified that the outfit has no hand in the bomb attack carried out at Lamyanba Irabot Sanglen located at Lamlai Challou,Imphal east.

A statement by Nonglen Meitei, publicity and propaganda secretary of the outfit further clarified that such an attack carried out at a memorial sanctuary of a true leader as Lamyanba Irabot is condemnable and should not be repeated in future.

The incident has further proved to be an eye opening issue which needs deep introspection to further the revolutionary ethos laid down by the leader, the statement said.

Since the inception of the Maoist Communist Party, the outfit has been disseminating information to the masses regarding revisionist communist and left wing armed gangs. Further, it is known that the outfit stands against bomb threats carried out to the public for extortion in the name of communists.

In order not to tarnish the image of Lamyanba Irabot, the Maoist have banned that no political party should make any committee in the name of the leader nor should any ceremonies be held by the political parties, the release added.

It has also dictated that the statues which would be constructed and remembrance functions carried should be done only on the interest of the public and not for any individual gains, the statement concluded.

IMPHAL, Jan 10: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) an apex student organisation of the Tangkhul community is organizing a free coaching for the students appearing for the HSLC Examination 2012.

According to a statement of the student body, the free coaching camp has begun with effect from January 9 at the Sentinel College near Gandhi Chawk, Ukhrul, particularly for Science and Mathematics subjects.

The TKS has sought the help of experienced subject teachers in organizing the free coaching camp. Those students who are interested to attend the coaching camp may contact the TKS office, it added.

The student body has also congratulated Alek Muivah of Somdal village of Ukhrul for his success in the Manipur Judicial service recruitment. He was recommended for the lone ST seat of the MJS examination for which the result was declared on Dec 22, 2011. At present, he is working as Assistant Professor at National Law University and Judicial Academy, Guwahati, Assam, the statement added.

IMPHAL, Jan 10: Members and staffs of the Manipur State Commission for Women staged a sit-in-protest today to protest planting of hand-grenade at the gate of its chairperson Dr L Ibetombi of Chingamathak Nameirakpam Leikai on January 7 night.

A release of the MSCW has clarified that the chairperson is not a politician and she has been functioning for women empowerment programmes in the hill districts and outskirts of Manipur. The Commission appeal all concerned to shun violence, the release added.

IMPHAL, Jan 8: A 13 year old girl allegedly committed suicide at her own residence.

The deceased girl is from Sega road Takhellambam Leikai under Imphal police station.

According to the father of the deceased, Tomba, his daughter had a quarrel with him regarding her mobile phone this morning.

Tomba further said he found his daughter hanging from a bar of the house using a cloth when he returned home after finishing his work.

The girl was immediately rushed to RIMS hospital but doctors declared her brought death, Tomba said.

Post mortem of the deceased girl has been conducted today and family members have taken the dead body.

IMPHAL, Jan 7: A joint team of the Narcotic Control Bureau, Imphal , 38 AR, 46 AR under 27 Sector AR of CCpur, CCpur police and AMADA have destroyed 750 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the general hill areas of South Aina in CCpur district, Manipur from December 30, 2011 to January 5, 2012.

A press release has informed that during the last year, the team had destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in the state valued at Rs 10.84 crores.

It has also mentioned that there are informations regarding the illegal cultivation of poppy plant in different locations of hill areas of Manipur and has further appealed to the public to give information to the NCB about any illegal cultivation of poppy plants, if they know.
