IMPHAL, July 26: Wife of one of three persons whose whereabouts is yet unknown after the trio including her husband was allegedly apprehended by personnel of the Assam Rifles of Khudengthabi Check post on July 23, has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.

According to the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the three missing prsons have been identified as Laishram Herojit Singh, s/o of L Ibomcha Singh of Utlou Awang Lekai, Jackson Maring of Machi Konaithong village of Chandel district and S Bobo Singh, s/o of S Samu Singh of Karam.

In this connection Th Thoibi Devi wife of the missing S Bobo Singh has submitted her memorandum to the chief minister today along with their local womenfolk this morning, requesting CM to take positive steps to let the members of family know their whereabout and to instruct the concerned AR authorities to hand over the arrested persons to the police station immediately in the fair play of law and justice, the memorandum added.

IMPHAL, Aug 10: The Federation of College Teachers’ Associations Manipur (FECTAM) will continue the cease-work strike until a concrete order is issued by the state government regarding the implementation of 6th revised UGC pay scale.

A release of the association stated that an emergency general council meeting was held today at GP Women’s College and resolved not to call off the strike until the demands of the college teachers are fulfilled.

IMPHAL, August 7: The 15 days detoxification camp organized by Senapati District Users’ Community (SUCO) in collaboration with community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) and Project ORCHID has been successfully completed on August 4. The organizing committee expressed its heart-felt gratitude to the deputy commissioner of Senapati district, Brigadier of 59 Mountain division, Church leaders and members of the town committee and to all the well wishers for their financial and moral support in making the camp a grand success. It said altogether 11 drug users community took treatment in the camp and that the general public at large wished to conduct such similar camp in future again.

IMPHAL August 16: A two days national seminar on “Manipur Politics (1946-52)” organized by the Manipur State Archive, directorate of art and culture, government of Manipur was inaugurated today at the Gandhi Memorial hall,  Imphal.

The inaugural function was attended by W. Kullabidhu, ex-M.P. Rajya Sabha, Dr. K. Sobita, director, art and culture, Manipur and S.N. Pandey, former dean M.U. as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Dr. Lokendro Arambam, former director, A.V.R.C. Manipur University moderated the opening session of the Two day long seminar.

Dr. A. Bimol Akoijam, associate professor, school of social sciences and Dr. Bhagat Oinam, associate professor, dept. of Philosophy at J.N.U. IMPHAL, August 17: The director, faculty members and staffs of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Thursday, felicitated prof H. Nandakumar Sharma, the new vice chancellor of Manipur University.

According to a statement of the RIMS, a close friend of RIMS for a long time the new VC broke protocol and came himself to the institute in the afternoon.

It further stated that soon after arrival he was closeted with director prof S. Sekharjit for some minute. They had a friendly informal interaction on the affairs of RIMS. They also briefly discussed on the general improvement of the institute, it added.

Later the faculty members and administrative staff gave him a rousing welcome at the conference hall of the Jubilee hall. The director said that the people in general and academics in particular ought to feel proud of having an eminent educationist like prof Sharma as the head of the university. He said that RIMS will continue to get a helping hand from the university in years to come, it added.

The incident occurred yesterday night at around 11 pm when some miscreants tried to set ablaze the tourist bus bearing registration number MN-01-1697 owned by Thokchom Rajan of Chingamakha Maibam Leirak.

IMPHAL, Aug 27: Suspected UNC blockade supporters burnt down a truck while supporters of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee set ablaze a school yesterday.

The UJB school located at Saparmeina Kangchup Chiru was burnt down by suspected SHDDC supporters at around 9:30 pm yesterday. The school was completely destroyed during the arson.

In another incident, suspected UNC supporters burnt down a truck (bearing registration number MN-01 9550) at around 10:30 pm yesterday.

UKHRUL, August 31: The State Bank of India (SBI), Ukhrul Branch located inside 17th Assam Riffles Campus, Somsai has distributed nine ceiling fans to Ukhrul Model High School under the hospitality theme “Community Services of Banking” by the SBI Bank Manager RK.Tiken Singh in a simple function held at Model School campus yesterday.

The aim and objective according to the Manager highlighted in the gathering focused on the co-operative Programme of the Bank to support all possible extents and means of infra-structural development towards underprivileged Government schools all over India.

The Principal of the Model High School, C. Nabin, expressed deep gratitude to the SBI Manager for such act of humanity and hospitality extended towards the upliftment of the Students’ community welfare.

IMPHAL, Sept 4: Apart from extending possible assistance to the under privileged families for their upliftment in livelihooh the 5 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 59 Mountain Brigade has been aiding in the education of under privileged children.

According to release of PIB, Defence Wing, a hostel established and functional at Maram provides free stay to 25 Children and also free education at Pancham Public School, both being financial and administratively supported by 5 Assam Rifles.

The release also mentioned that, 5 Assam Rilfes has been always been instrumental in extending its kind hand to the local populace in every possible way. Recently, a local resident of Maram witnessed this act of kindness wherein all assistance was provided by 5 Assam Rifles in reconstruction of a damaged house due to a landslide. Along with constructional material like cement and bricks monetary help was also provided by the Battalion. The beneficiary was very grateful to the selfless efforts of 5 Assam Rifles, such kind gesture was extremly appreciated by the local public of Maram, the release added.

IMPHAL, Sept 21: Consumers’ Club Manipur has lambasted the state government for abnormal price hike of essential commodities in the aftermath of economic blockade imposed on the national highways.

A release of CCM stated that the government fails to tackle the issue and as a result of such negligence the people of the state are suffering extremely. The price list framed by the state government is also without the approval of the consumers’ club.

The Consumers’ Club further appealed to the people to take cash memo and receipts while purchasing the essential commodities.

IMPHAL, April 6: 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) provided water supply scheme to Langol village and 10 solar street light systems to Thamlapokpi village in Chandel district. According to a release of the PRO, the water supply scheme and solar light systems has been provided under Assam Rifles Military Civic Action. The water supply scheme and solar light system were handed over to Village Authority and would surely help in overall development of these villages, it added.

IMPHAL, April 11: In an intermediate arrangement of the state Home Department the transfer and postings of five IPS officials including the seniors SPs and the three MPS officials have been made recently by the state government.
 As per the official order issued by the Joint Secy. DP, Sumant Singh on April, 8 this month,  mentioned that,  L Kailun, IPS Sr. SP Imphal West was transferred as DIG (Range91) with additional charge of SP Imphal West, Clay Khongsai, IPS, Sr. SP Thoubal was upgraded to DIG Headquarter / Administration with Additional charge of SP Imphal east, Manglemjao Singh, IPS, SP Security was transferred as  DIG, Armed Police-1,  G Bimolchandra Singh, IPS, SP Churachandpur was transferred as DIG Range-III.
The official order further mentioned that, Kh Chandramani Singh IPS, CO 7th  MR as DIG Range –II, Th Radheshyam Singh, SP Imphal East is transferred as SP Bishnupur, K Jayantaumar  Singh, Sp Bishnupur is transferred as SP Thoubal and  M Rajen Singh, MPS, Addl. IMPHAL, April 13: As part of ongoing efforts by 12 AR of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(S)  provided relief to villages of the region, 15 Solar Lights were gifted to eight villages namely Loni, Phaikoh, Molvailup, K Asang Kullen, Choro, Kongkhan, Skipe and Punamram. The solar lights were distributed by Commandant 12 Assam Rifles to village authorities during the interaction.
In Yet another occasion, 12 AR of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) provided  15 Sewing machines  to Gamnoum, Nambashi Kullen and Pihang villages as part of Assam Rifles Military Civic Action plan. The Commandant 12 AR  interacted with the Headmen and civilians during the presentation ceremony. The locals were extremely appreciative of the initiative taken by the Assam Rifles in bringing about developments in the area and helping out the common man.
