IMPHAL, April 16: The Manipur Committee for Social Concerns (MCSC) is organizing a one day discourse on “the impact of corruption, extortion on civil society” on April 20 at the Classic Hotel.
The discourse would be graced by Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing as the chief guest, Moirang MLA and state youth congress president, M. Pritivi Raj and C. Doungel as the guests of honour and prof. Lal Dena of MU as functional president.
The other important speakers and moderators who would be participating in the discourse include prof. Irene Salam, Pradip Phanjoubam, editor Imphal Free Press, M. Pritivi Raj, Dr. M. Nara Singh, E Benoy, lt col. KA Singh, Dr rev. Pulamte, Grace Shatang, capt Ashok Tipnis and Rupachandra, Brozendro of Media.
As a special feature about 15 to 20 research scholars from MU will be joining the discourse on behalf of MCSC and Kuki Research forum.

IMPHAL, April 18: Demanding the release of Khwairakpam Ongbi Landhoni Devi, 37, wife of Kh. Jiten singh who is in jail for his involvement with a militant organization, the Advance Women Society, a confederation of various women society today held a protest rally at Awang Sekmai bazaar.
The protest rally demanded immediate release of Kh. Landhoni devi,who was allegedly arrested by NIA when she went to meet her husband at Guwahati. She left two children and is said to be in a deteriorating health. Her hearing is said to be on 27 of April.
The protesters demanded immediate release of Landhoni without any condition. They further said that government should be responsible if anything untoward happens to Landhoni.Ng. Shanti Devi, president of Women Society, asked the reason behind Landhoni’s arrest and further said that Landhoni is not involved with any militant group even if her husband is and that she is innocent and she must be released immediately.

IMPHAL April 20: One day discourse on Impact of Corruption and Extortion on Civil Society was held today at Classic hotel.

The one day discourse was jointly organized by Manipur Committee for Social Concerns and Kuki Research forum. The function was attended by many dignitaries, well known personalities, intellectuals and scholars.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest of the function veteran congressman Rishang Keishing said `MLAs and bureaucrats think only of the ways to benefit from corruptions`¦ they don`™t think for the welfare of the public`. He added that nowadays corruption has become more and more of a problem.

M.Prithiviraj, MLA said as the Guest of Honour of this function that the root causes of corruption and extortion is poverty and lack of employment in rural areas.

C. Dongel, Ex-minister and Prof. Lal Dena were also present as the other guest of honour and president respectively.

IMPHAL April 22: The Centre for Youth and Cultural Activities (CYCA), Khurai Puthiba leikai is organsing a three days Folk Dance and Music festival from April 23 at the premises of Lainingthou Puthiba, Khurai Puthiba Leikai, said a press release. The three days cultural programme is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It further said that S. Bideshwor Sharma, Ranjit Adhikary and Ph. Iboton Singh will be the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively in the inaugural function. IMPHAL, April 29: The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy is organising a five day festival of dance drama from April 30 at the auditorium of the Academy daily from 5pm.

Besides three dance dramas of JNMDA repertory, four other groups are also performing their dance dramas during the five day long festival.

Briefing mediaperson about the upcoming festival, director of the JNMDA Dilip Mayngbam said the festival is being organised to encourage artistes and groups adventuring into the art form even if it is unprofitable to them economically.

He also said that many talented young artistes are taking part in the festival which will have seven performances in all.

IMPHAL May 3 (NNN): The Naga people will observe the first death anniversary of the two students who were killed in the security force firing last year in the Manipur-Nagaland border at Mao Gate, according to the United Naga Council.

Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshou were killed in the security force firing on May 6 last year at Mao-Gate in the impasse of Muivah`™s proposed visit to his home village.

The United Naga Council called the two students as martyrs.

President of Naga Hoho, Keviletuo Kiewhuo will unveil the `martyrs` epitaph at Mao Gate, said the UNC.

Naga Hoho, Naga Student Federation (NSF), Naga Mothers`™ Association (NMA), Naga frontal organisations in Manipur, Naga tribes in Manipur, social leaders , dignitaries from all works of life will attend the anniversary, the UNC said.

The United Naga Council (UNC) instructs all the Naga villages to honour the “martyrs” by pronouncing ghena on May 6. Ghena means to abstain from all manual works.

Chandramani, former Director health services early this morning at around 7 am.The grenade was later safely retrieved by the police bomb squad and safely disposed off at Langol.However it is not clear as to why the bomb was left. IMPHAL, June 19: Troops of the 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) has claimed to have apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals from a Maruti van from Tengnoupal area of Chandel district.

A release of the IGAR(S) said the two foreigners were traveling in a Maruti van bearing registration No. MN-01W- 1687 without valid documents.

The apprehended Bangladeshi nationals has been identified as Md Hussain, 20, s/o S Jolal of Mokshidebara, Cox Bazar, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Md Ismail, 22 s/o late Moulana Pir Mohammad, a resident of Partuli, Cox Bazar, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Both the foreign nationals have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station, the release added.
