IMPHAL June 23: A forum consisting of all newly elected 54 members in the recently concluded Municipal Council Elections formed a body titled as Imphal Municipal Council Elected Ward Development Committee Members Forum following a meeting held at Ima Khunthok Lairembi Sanglen today.

The selected representatives of the new forum are Khunmbongmayum Gambhir as president,Tourangbam Indrajit as general secretary, Haorongbam Santosh as publicity secretary and Wangkhem Devraj as Treasurer, a release by the publicity secretary said.

IMPHAL June 27: The RIMS Nurses Association Lamphelpat, today, felicitated, Th. Binodini Devi, staff nurse, RIMS in recognition of her achievement in the field of nursing. 

Recently Binodini was awarded the prestigious “National Florence Nightingale awards of nursing personnel for the year 2011. The award is bestowed to individual for the highest meritorious services rendered in nursing profession.

A simple felicitation function was held at the premises of RIMS, Lamphelpat this afternoon. Th. Chinglembi Devi, nursing superintendent presided the function while Professor. H. Shanti Singh, medical superintendent RIMS and Ch. Subhadani Devi, president of RIMS Nurses Association graced the function as chief guest and guests of honour respectively.

The function was attended by staff and well wishers.

IMPHAL, July 1: Armed miscreants attack the custom office of Moreh, by firing several rounds in the evening yesterday.

According to reports from the concerned office, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when two armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki militants entered the office searching for the Superintendent of the custom Moreh, RK. Ranendrajit.

On being informed that the SP was not in the office the miscreants took out small arms and started firing several rounds aiming at the office properties before leaving.

There was no information of any human casualties due to the attack.

The exact motive behind the attack could not be ascertained however sources inside the custom office revealed that a newly formed militant group had imposed monetary demands at the custom office few months back.

A case has been registered at the Moreh police station in connection with the firing incident.

IMPHAL July 4: Manipur Senmit Ehon Lup and Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup today organized a one day free medical camp at Khwairamband Ema Keithel (Purana Bazaar in collaboration with ARISTO pharmaceutical private Limited. Earlier a similar medical camp was organized on December 2010, jointly by MSEL and MKNM.

The free medical camp was attended upon by Dr. L. Bikramjit Singh and Dr. Suraj Singh M.O. (medicine), Dr. Ramananda Ophthalmologist and Dr. Hecter Dentist.

L. Memma, secretary general of MSEL expressed that the free medical camp was organized to facilitate various local venders of Khwairamband bazaar keeping in view of their economic conditions. The medical camp is organized for the welfare of vendors of Khwairamband bazaar, she added.

More than 200 venders attended today’s medical camp. She stated that the medical camp was started from 9 am and will continue till 4 pm in the evening. She further mentioned that such free medical camps will be organized on a regular basis.

IMPHAL, July 7: The Meitei National Front has deeply condoled on the demise of Queen of Maram Centre village R Kasuila Roseline, who expired on July 4. 

Roseline was 78 and she is survived by 10 children and 55 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Roseline was wife of K Taruba, Khullapka of Maram Centre village.

She founded Maram Centre village in 1968 and was a pioneer of Roman Catholic religion at Maram.

IMPHAL, July 17: Various farmers’ organizations of the state have condemned the agriculture minister Ph Parijat saying that he is playing divisive roles in the present fertilizer crisis.

The separate releases from All Manipur Progressive Farmers’ Association, Heirok Farmers’ Society, Nongpok Imphal Loumi-Sinmi Apunba Lup, Ngairangbam Farmers’ Society and Khundrakpam Apunba Loumi Lup stated that the farmers of the state are facing shortage of fertilizers in the state due to irresponsible act of the concerned agriculture minister. He cannot keep his promises to the farmers. The farmers are still buying the fertilizers at a much higher rate than the actual price fixed by the state government.

The farmers further appealed to the concerned authority to take up necessary actions to solve the present fertilizer crisis.

MOREH, July 19: The Border Trade and Chamber of Commerce and Tamil Sangam, Moreh have called a 48-hour Moreh bandh from 6am tomorrow protesting the arrest of V Shekhar, president of Tamil Sangam, by police in New Delhi.

A joint release issued by the two organizations strongly condemned the allegations of drug trafficking made by police to V Shekhar. The two organizations resolved to call the 48-hour bandh after an emergency meeting convened today at the office of Tamil Sangam, Moreh.

The organizations would further hold sit-in-protest at Masjid Road on July 21.

IMPHAL, July 22: An agricultural tour organised by 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under the aegis of IGAR(S) was flagged of by Major General C A Krishnan, AVSM, IGAR(S) in simple ceremony organised at the HQ IGAR (South), Mantripukhri on 22 Jul 2011.

A release of PRO IGAR (S) stated that the agricultural tour has been conceptualised to give the farmers a first hand experience in the latest trends and technologies of modern farming by visiting various Agri-institutes and interaction with agricultural scientist at Solan and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Solan and Shimla were the chosen destination of the tour because of the similar weather, soil and altitudes as obtained in Ukhrul. The tour in which a total of 17 farmers will participate is scheduled from 25 Jul to 09 Aug 2011. The tour aims at introducing modern agricultural techniques including horticulture and floriculture techniques in Ukhrul Dist to make the farmers of Ukhrul Dist self-reliant and introduce more economically profitable agriculture. The IGAR(South) interacted with the farmers and encouraged them to fully utilise the tour to explore the latest trends in agriculture.

IMPHAL, July 24: The Federation of College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FECTAM) has warned the state government of launching stern agitations if the demands of the college teachers are not fulfilled as soon as possible.

A release of FECTAM stated that the government college teachers have been demanding the implementation of 6th revised UGC pay scale but the state government has sidelined the demands of the college teachers.

The teachers could no longer bear the false assurances of the state government. They would even resort to taking mass casual leave and mass resignation if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest, stated a release.

IMPHAL, August 8: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur has strongly condemned the state government stating that it has failed to tackle the volatile situation that has developed at National Highways 37 and 39 due to the demand for Sadar hills district.

It said that the ZSU in a meeting has unanimously resolved and reaffirmed to disallow trespassers intruding upon the zeliangrond historical land adding the ZSU neither oppose nor support the creation of Sadar hills and Jiribam in to full fledged district.

It warned the government not to make one sided decision which would invite communal disharmony.

IMPHAL, Aug 12: The chairman of proscribed KCP Military Affairs Committee has greeted the people of the state on the occasion of 7th raising day of Miyamgi Fingang Lanmi (MFL) on August 14.

A statement issued by chairman Laba Meitei stated that the KCP has been waging war against the Indian government to regain the lost Independence of Manipur which was forcibly annexed by the Indian government on October 15, 1949. The MFL would always work for the cause of the oppressed and downtrodden people of the region, it stated.

Further, the statement mentioned that the formation of coordination committee comprising of KCP, KYKL,

IMPHAL, August 24: The Kuki Inpi and Kuki Students’ Organisation, Ukhrul district have strongly condemned the abduction of Wungshim Kasar, EE, PWD on the midnight of August 21 at his Litan Sanikhong quarter by armed miscreants.

A joint statement of the two bodies said that they have been working day and night to rescue the abducted engineer but to no avail.
