The Buddha said, ‘War cannot bring peace’ (Part-I)

War is a violent conflict between states. Though the word is used to describe other types of conflict – civil war, class war, etc. – war is an aspect of politics. Much of man’s oral and written records, perhaps as much as of it as it devoted to any other human beings, deal with war. Groups of men used their hunting weapons against other men long before the dawn of history. For centuries man regarded war as an inevitable part of his fate, like his struggles with the weather, disease or the mysterious ocean.

Career option in Anthropology

There are many career options around us and if we can choose our career with proper planning and with our passion then life would be always rewarding. One of the careers related to growth and progress of mankind is Anthropology. The term Anthropology has been derived from two Greek terms namely ‘anthropos’ which means human and ‘logos’ means study. Thus Anthropology is the study of human beings in its absoluteness.

PCR and its clinical applications

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a powerful core molecular biology technique. It is an efficient and rapid in vitro method for enzymatic amplification of specific DNA or RNA sequences from nucleic acids of various sources. It is an efficient way to copy or “amplify” small segments of DNA or RNA. Using PCR, millions of copies of a section of DNA are made in just a few hours, yielding enough DNA required for analysis. This innovative yet simple technique allows clinicians to diagnose and monitor diseases using a minimal amount of sample, such as blood or tissue. It allows for accurate diagnosis of underlying conditions which may not be currently clinically active but have a likelihood of developing in the future.

The loveable Lord’s birthday

Who would not enjoy and love the pranks of a child, more so if He is a divine child? So it is no wonder that the jayanthi (birthday) of the most mischievous and most loved child, Lord Krishna, is celebrated with much love, mirth and enthusiasm throughout our Bharath. Lord Krishna’s incarnation was on the eighth day (Ashtami Thithi) during Rohini Nakshtra (star). According to the website drikpanchang.com, Lord Kirishna was born on 18th July 3228 BC (23rd of June 3227 as per Gregorian calendar) in Mathura.

Linux is 25 years old today

When I look back to the year 1991, I remember many things. Manipuri language got included in the 8th schedule. I was in 8th standard in Don Bosco, Imphal, where Oja Dhaneshwar Ningthoujam taught us ‘Basic’ on 8 bit BBC Microcomputers, and in civics class Oja Varkey Parampadyil Varghese talked about Balkan crisis and a revolution that was brewing up in Europe.

Much thankfulness to the judgement as he didn’t therefore confirmed, the death sentence was not passed on them. Thus the commutation of the death sentence was left in the hands of the Government. The Govt. of India, vide secretary order No. 1653 E dated 18.8.1891, the capital punishment was reduced to the transportation for life to the Andaman and Nicobar Jail. My dad on his accounts on Usharba said they were deported to Tezpur Jail on Sept. 4, 1891 and later finally to their exile destination at Andaman and Nicobar Jail.

Reminiscence of Usharba, an unsung hero

It was a lazy mid- morning but what followed was going to boost me for a very long time. We were just having a casual conversation around the dining table during our morning meal (ayukki chak charamdai) and my father was talking about one of his cousins who died recently. That’s how I got inspired to write the following story.
