Repeated atrocities on ‘Enghish’

Due to peer pressure and demand from the unscrupulous elements I am compelled to jot down this sequel (subsequent part of my last column). It is neither my pleasure nor privilege to run down the most widely and wildly spoken language of the world. It is a global truth that English language is spoken every nook and cranny (for the Englishmen it ought to be ‘every nook and corner’) of the world but in the way they want. The native speakers of English can’t punish or sue them or challenged or even rebuke them for speaking wrong and clumsy English. They can simply grumble and murmur.

Sociology is the study of social behaviour or society, including its origins, development, organization, networks, and institutions. It is a social science that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about social order, disorder, and change. Many sociologists aim to conduct research that may be applied directly to social policy and welfare, while others focus primarily on refining the theoretical understanding of social processes. Subject matter ranges from the micro level of individual agency and interaction to the macro level of systems and the social structure.

Manipuri people and safeguards But in the submerged landscape of the mind, a sense of being a distinct people within a geographical region took root and continued to seed itself. Much later, that is in recent times, it manifested itself as a rallying cry of that section of this people who saw both the pre-Independence British rule and the post-Independence Indian rule as two different forms of colonialism imposed on an independent nation.

Making best use of noble gestures from abroad

Japan, a conglomerate of small islands, also known as ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ is infamous for civility, courtesy and high level of discipline of its citizens. In lower primary classes, the tiny tots are taught on various aspects viz, basic courtesy, personal and public hygiene, sanitation, cleanliness, patience and tolerance before inculcating their Japanese alphabets like ‘A, B, C….’ of English inside their heads. The Japanese are also considered the cleanest people on earth in terms of personal hygiene.

Education – road to social development

The term ‘education’ is defined by various experts in different manner. I would like to place this particular definition. ‘Education’ is a systematic process through which a child or an adult acquires knowledge, experience, skill and sound attitude. It makes an individual civilized, refined, cultured and educated. For a civilized and socialized society, education is the only means for a healthy environment. Education makes an individual perfect. Every society gives importance to education because it is the key to solve various problems of life. Paulo Freire (1973) famously called this banking – making deposits of knowledge. Such ‘schooling’ quickly descends into treating learners like objects, things to be acted upon rather than people to be related to. John Dewey (1916) put it, a social process – ‘a process of living and not a preparation for future living’.

Climate change & increasing water demand in Manipur

ABSTRACT: Climate change refers to an average increase or decrease in earth’s temperature which in turn causes warmer or colder. It is due to both anthropogenic activities and natural phenomenon. Due to climate change, rainfall fluctuates every year causing water scarcity. This increases water demand. Large scale deforestation and lack of rain water harvesting enhances the water problem. We cannot prevent the natural phenomenon but we should try to minimize its effects. We should also reduce anthropogenic activities that cause serious harm to our environments. With growing population and rainfall fluctuation due to climate change, Imphal valley’s water supply is under great pressure as the demand continues to rise. Water conservation has become a critical element of water management strategy in the state. Minimizing water-use, waste, and loss overtime is heavily dependent on continually evaluating and adopting new technologies and practices. The scientific way of searching of groundwater as well as harvesting of rainwater in a planned manner should be the main sources of water for potable, domestic and industrial in Manipur.

Threats & obstacles in conservation of biodiversity in Manipur

Definition of Biodiversity: As per the Convention of Biological Diversity 1992 ‘Biological diversity’ means the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are a part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems. Biodiversity is a compound word derived from ‘Biological diversity’ and therefore considered to have the same meaning.

From the population perspective on the present scenario in Manipur

India’s population is increasing rapidly in urban areas due to massive scale of job opportunities and diverse educational prospect in universities and other educational institutions leading to perilous migration issues of consequent overpopulation. There are cases of refugees from Bangladesh dwelling on the low roof and shabby houses in slums of most capital cities. These people hide their true identity and imitate cultures and language managing to learned Hindi and Bengali for the very purpose of beginning their lives in India. The same is true for the Northeast states who share boundaries with Bangladesh and Myanmar. There is also apprehension that after 50 years migrants living in slums will increase dramatically especially in metropolis of the country.
