IMPHAL, May 18: ESU Wangkhei will clash THAU Thangmeiband in the first semi final of the 8th Th Birchandra Football Academy state level U-16 football tournament. In the second semi final TBSFA will clash SKDC.

THAU managed to enter the semi final by virtue of beating NIDSU by a solitary goal in a league match played today.

The one and only important goal for the THAU was scored by Ch Kiran in the 36th minute. Kiran`s goal came off a spot kick.

In another match played today KKYDA defeated YWC Malo, by 4-0 goals.

Yaiphaba, Damu and Rinau scored the goal for KKYDA while YWC`s Bangkim scored a own goal to total KKYDA`s goal to four.

A release of the Hockey Manipur said the tournament will kick start on June 20 and all the hockey club/union/associations are informed to collect entry form which is available at its office or may be collected from the secretary of the association.

IMPHAL, June 12: The Raseshori of SWC win the gold while T Anzani of PPLYDO took silver and S Niha, the bronze in the mini girls Foil event of the 7th Governor’s Cup fencing championship being held at Indoor Stadium of Khuman Lampak sports complex.

In the mini girls Sabree event, S Ormila of Mishikhol took gold while Homeshori of SWC won the silver medal. The bronze medal was shared between Kh Kalambia of SAI and L Memtombi of SWC.

In the mini boys Sabre event, Chingkheilembi of UPAA won the gold while M Pravana of Mishikhol won the silver and N Abram Linkon of SWC won the bronze.

In the mini boys Epee event, O Victor took gold whileL Bhupen and Th Bommai respectively bagged silver and bronze medals.

In the sub-junior girls Epee, H Linthoi of UPAA won gold while S Chingkhei also of UPAA won silver. The bronse medal was shared between Rashiya of PPYDO and S Kiranbala of OLA.

IMPHAL, June 22: The second phase of the Youth & Sports Movement in Manipur begins today.

Organised by the Sports Movement Committee Manipur, the second phase of movement, after hectic discussions, brought out five proposal which would be forwarded to the state government for its prompt implementations.

The five proposals include upgradation of YAS as a major department, revival of the State Sports Council, amendments to the State Sports Policy and upgradation of National Sports Academy, Imphal to the international standard.

Speaking during the inaugural function held at the Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, state YAS minister DD Thaisii said the proposals put forward by the Sports Movement Committee Manipur for development of youths and sports would be discussed at the Chief Minister’s level for taking up necessary action.

President of the Manipur Olympic Association, Bijoy Koijam, MLA, who also attended today’s function stressed the need for giving special attention to role of coaches who are reponsible for moulding and developing talented player to the international level.

He also said government is all set to start construction of an Olympic Bhavan in the state.

IMPHAL, July 7: Former champion RK Appolosana Mangang has lifted the 16th Y Nilamani memorial open Chess trophy, 2011 which concluded today at the premise of Manipur College.

Appolosana lifts the title with 6 points while last year’s winner RK Bhogen stood second with 51/2 points. The third spot was bagged by Kh Sanjoy who too scored 51/2 points.

During prize distribution function, Dr Kh Jayantakumar, principal Manipur College attended as chief guest, while N Raghumani, HOD Botany, MC was guest of honour and S Umananda, president Singjamei Press Club as functional president.

IMPHAL, July 18: 20 students of Mary Kom regional boxing foundation were given sports kits under the SAI SAG extension scheme this afternoon at the premises of the academy, informed a statement of issued by Jimmy Leivon, secretary of the foundation.

It said, world women boxing champion, Mary Kom has extended its gratitude to the Director in-charge SAI NERC, Imphal and the staff for their constant help and guidance towards the smooth functioning of the academy.

She also exhorted the boxers to work hard despite the less facilities being availed to them at present, it further adds.

It further informed that the extension scheme was availed to the academy since August 2010. under the scheme, SAI provides necessary sports kits to the boxers and the whole recurring expenses of the academy are incurred by Mary Kom and with the support of well wishers, it further maintained.

IMPHAL, Aug 26: S Jatra defeated N Niranjoy by 21-13 and 21-15 in the final match of 50 plus veteran singles of 56th State Open Badminton Championship held at Indoor Stadium, DM College.

In other match, M Mairaba also entered the semi-final of mini boys’ singles by defeating Roosevelt by 21-12 and 21-9.

M Somibala and Rubashan also entered the semi-final by defeating Akhang and S Chuimi respectively in sub-junior girls’ singles.

IMPHAL, Sept 20: While the first and second match ended with a walked over JSYC defeated Kangpokpi Youth Union 3-0 in the third match of Sadar Hills  District League played today at Thomas ground Kangpokpi.
Thanggoulen, Thangjahao and Thangcha scored for JSYC and qualified for semi-final. The other semi finalists are Pangjang Youth Club, Muvanlai Athletics and SC.Loagos.

JSYC meet Pangjang Youth Club in the first semi final match on Thursday while Muvanlai Athletics will clash with SC.Loagos in the second match.

The champion of the tournament will directly play in the coming CC Meet tournament while the runner up will play in qualifying tournament for CC Meet or Winner’s Cup.

Irabanta, representing AMBBA won the Mr. India title after a long gap of 41 years. He also won overall junior Mr. india.

In the women`™s fitness championship, Y. Suchitra Devi was placed in the 2nd position upto 163 cms category whilw Kh. Pritam from Manipur, representing CRPF won gold in the 100 kg category.

In the first match played today, MPSC`™s Tababi scored four goals in the 25th, 33rd, 67th and 73rd minutes while Ng. Bala scored one more goal for MPSC. YWC`™s lone goal was scored by Ph. Bina in he 69th minute.

In the second match played today, ESU`™s Th Umabati scored in the 37th, 41st and 61st minute. I. Brameshwori and Th. Romi scored a goal each in the 38th and 74th minute. Players of YWC failed to score any goal agingst ESU.

IMPHAL, April 22: RTC beat KSLYC in strait set 3-0 in the first quarter final of the 1st junior state level volleyball tournament being held at New Market, Awang Sekmai.
RTC won the match with the points – 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.
In the second quarter final MPSC defeated KSLYC by 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-18, 25-14) while in the third quarter final NYVA beat HAWA by 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23).
In the last quarter final played today at the same venue MYDC defeated LTSA by 3-0 (25-13, 25-16. 25-10).
In the first semi final, RTC will clash with NYVA while MPSC play MYDC in the second semi final on April 30.

IMPHAL, April 28: NSU drew NYASO 1-1 in a match of the 3rd Th Birchandra football academy state level U-13 football tournament being held at Toubungkhok.
NYASO took early lead as N Thoithoi scored in the 2nd minute of the match. K Kuber made the equaliser for NSU in the 29th minute.
In the second match, YWC(L) defeated YFC by 2-1.
Lansingam scored both the goals for YWC in the 29th and 33rd minute while Rojen scored for YFC in the 11th minute. In the third match, BMSC beat TDC by 3-2.
M Joyprakash, Th Meghajit and Robinson scored for BMSC while A Aboicha and L Roshan scored for TDC.
In the fourth match of the day LUFA defeated YWC(M) by 6-0. The goal for LUFA were scored by Boiyai, Lulum, Khupneisaneng and Havei while Bhogen scored two goals.

IMPHAL, May 8: FC Imphal will meet Nagaland veteran football team in the final of the 13th Challenge Cup veteran football tournament.FC Imphal reached the final after defeating FLAM by 3-1 in the second semi final played today at Mapal Kangjeibung. The Nagaland team had already entered the final after defeating IMVFA in the first semi final.FC Imphal had early lead in the match through a fourth minute goal from T Bale while Krishna increased the margin in the 20th minute with another goal. Later in the second half, S Rohendro scored third goal for FC Imphal to sail into the summit clash against Nagaland. FLAM managed to reduced the goal difference only in the 57th minute when resurgent N Bobo netted in only goal for team. FC Imphal will play Nagaland in the final on May 10 at Mapal Kangjeibung.
