IMPHAL, Nov 7 NNN: Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organisation (CNPO) has disagreed the State government’s policy to shift the site for construction of FCI godown to Thoubal district from Chandel district.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister of Education and Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (CAF &PD), Government of Manipur on November 3 last, CNPO stated that the Government of Manipur had recommended for construction of FCI godown at Liwa Khulen under Patta and Dag No. 15/420 of Chandel SDO/SDC Revenue Office in the interest of the general public as per the Revenue Department report communicated to the Government of Manipur and FCI office by the Chandel district administration.
“Attempting to shift the site for construction of FCI godown from Chandel district to Thoubal district at the initiative of some politicians would reflect a wrong impression to the public “, the memorandum said while alleging that some politicians have initiated a new proposal of sites which are located at Heikakpokpi under Patta and Dag No. 1130/1359, 1310/1311 and 1322/1323 of Kakching SDO/SDC Revenue Office, Thoubal district contradicting to the public interest.
Decrying the move of the government, CNPO requested the authority concerned not to exercise the power and authority to hurt and antagonize the general public and urged to consider the recommendation of site for construction of FCI godown at Liwa Khullen, Chandel district as submitted by the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district earlier.

SENAPATI, Nov 7 NNN: Along Longkumer, editor of Dimapur based daily newspaper The Morung Express has suggested for the formation of a forum between the Meiteis and the Nagas in order to address the differences.
Speaking as a resource person during the first foundation of The Hornbill Express newspaper at Senapati headquarters today, Along Longkumer said a forum involving the Meiteis and the Nagas has become a matter of urgency so as to address the differences.
“It is actually over due that such a forum is yet to be formed,” said The Morung Express Editor. He said that people-to-people dialogue is important in a situation like in Manipur. Mr Longkumer also stated that unless such move is not initiated the problem is bound to get worsened.
United Naga Council (UNC) president L Adani while speaking on the occasion lamented that media based in Imphal is often one sided for a long time. “The launching of The Hornbill Express in Senapati has filled the vacuum,” claimed the UNC president. He also requested the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) president to do something that the Imphal based newspapers are balanced in their approached. “Editorials of the Imphal based newspapers often represent the views of only one party and ignore the other,” alleged the UNC president.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union president A Mobi harped on the purpose of the media and said they are representing the “voice of the voiceless.”
Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) president Markson lauded The Hornbill Express team and the man behind the paper Peter Adani for making the life of the district easier with the setting up of the newspaper. “Stealing cases have decreased. We don’t have to go now to Imphal for a small advertisement. Corruption cases too have been minimised after the launching of The Hornbill Express,” claimed Markson.
Seven Sisters Post correspondent Yumnam Rupachandra seconded the suggestion of The Morung Express editor Along Longkumer. While quoting Kaka D Iralu’s comment, Rupachandra said, “Who should others solve our problems. We can sort it out by ourselves the problems here and yes, we need a common forum as suggested by Along Longkumer,” said Yumnam Rupachandra.
Witoubou of NNN while speaking as a resource person harped on the hardship faced by the journalists. He also lamented that tribal people do not have patience in staying long as media persons. Witoubou also rued that the tribal people are good in launching newspapers but when comes to sustenance side, they are poor managers.
Meanwhile, editor of The Hornbill Express Peter Adani recalled what had prompted him to start the daily.

The organization formed in the wake of governmental‘s indifference, has protested against the non-maintenance of the road and urged for smooth transportation facilities to be extended to the district.
The road was handed over to BRTF in September this year, hoping for better care of the situation but it never transpired. However, the only road which is the only link to the state capital Imphal is in total disrepair, the organization charged.

IMPHAL, Nov 6 NNN: Saying that if Tokay Gecko does not belong to endangered group this reptile species should be put up for sale by issuing licenses to boost the State economy, stated Uttam Chand, Director, Department of Science and Technology, Manipur on Tuesday.
Speaking at the concluding function of the 1st State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show held at DM College campus here, Uttam Chand encouraged entrepreneurs in the State and talked in length about finding ways and means to develop the State economy.
Plants or animals which are found in Manipur are increasingly demanded by other states and countries and one of them is Tokay Gecko which has high medicinal values, he said. It has become one of the most attractive items of many interested buyers from outside the State and the fact is now well known by the people, Chand who attended the function as chief guest, added.
He suggested that instead of imposing ban on selling either medicinal plants or animals available in Manipur it is better to promote them and allow selling after issuing proper licenses if they do not fall under the category of endangered groups.
“If we can export Tokay Gecko whose demand is on the rise it would significantly help boost the State economy,” he further asserted and maintained that such business is carried out in other countries like Malaysia.
The 1st State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show organized by MASTEC started from November 3. The concluding function of the exhibition was attended by Ng Brajakumar, Principal, DM College of Commerce and Th Surendranath, Director, MASTEC as president and guest of honour respectively.

IMPHAL, Nov 6 NNN : Large number of non-Manipuris thronged Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Porompat of Imphal East district on Monday to register names in new Electoral Rolls, while the convenor of Joint Coordination Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCCILPS) urged the State Government to take up the process after proper verification only.
Around 500 non-Manipuris aged between 26 and 50, including Nepalese and other North Indians who cannot speak Manipuri came to SDO office, Porompat for entry of their names in the new Electoral Rolls. The enrolment process is being taken up by the State Election Commission.
Hearing the information of the enrolment of non-Manipuris in the electoral rolls, a team of JCCILPS led by its convenor Sapamcha Jadumani along with reporters visited the SDO office. Jadumani was upset to see the large number of non-Manipuris standing in queue at the office. He alleged that such registration of non-Manipuris in the Electoral Rolls was carried out by illegal agents of political parties.
He said these non-Manipuris should be registered their names only on the production of domicile certificates and affidavits so as to verify them properly. The concerned authority should also take special care while enrolling them, he suggested.
Jadumani also said the JCCILPS will not allow further entry of non-Manipuris in the Electoral Rolls in the same manner. Such filthy process will dilute the ongoing movement of ILP in the State, he warned.
JCCILP has been demanding introduction of ILP system in Manipur. The committee had earlier registered various forms of protests on the demand and still it is continuing agitation over the demand. It has also announced that the Union Home Minister would be informed that ILP would be enforced in the State by the committee with effect for November 18.

Right To Information is not what to be given by the government but what we have to use. It is us which we have to use as a tool for the betterment of our country. This remark is given by Micheal Zimik, the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP), in his topical presentation on Right To Information(RTI) Act on the third day of Bharat Nirman campaign at Ukhrul.

The Act also requires every public authority to computerize their records for wide dissemination and to pro-actively publish certain categories of information so that the citizens need minimum recourse to request for information formally.
This law was passed by Parliament on 15 June 2005 and came fully into force on 12 October 2005. Information disclosure in India was hitherto restricted by the Official Secret Act 1923 and various other special laws, but with the inception of RTI it has now been relaxes.
