Mail News Service Imphal, Oct 14 : In the ongoing attempt to bridge the gap between Manipur and main stream India a National Integration Tour is being organised by 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR(S) from 15 Oct to 01 Nov 2012. A total of 20 school children from Moreh town will vis New Delhi, under the scheme. The National Integration Tour was flagged off from Mantripukhri by Maj Gen U K Gurung, YSM, IGAR(S) on 14 Oct 12. This educational tour is yet another effort by the Assam Rifles to strengthen its bond of friendship and trust with the people of Manipur. Moreh, a multiethnic town in South Manipur is a testimony to the rich cultural diversity of India. The small border town is a truly cosmopolitan edifice highlighting the ‘Unity in Diversity’ concept with Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas, Myanmarese, Tamilians, Marwaris, Sikhs, Biharis staying as a close unit & homogenous society which is admirable and appreciable. It stands tall and steadfast as ‘Mini India’. Twenty young minds from this border town who are proceeding on the educational tour are bestowed with a unique opportunity to gain first hand insight into the hinterland, showcasing its development and advancements which will help the impressionable minds realise their future dreams. The itinerary of the tour includes interaction with the President of India, the Chief of the Army Staff and eminent sports personalities like Vijendra Singh, Kapil Dev, etc, in addition to visits to various historical places like Red fort, India Gate, Raj Ghat and Qutab Minar. A visit to the Shopping Mall, Cineplex, Mc Donald and a Metro ride for the children is also planned to give them a taste of modern India. The tour aims to acquaint the children to the real world, yet unknown to them. The children are sure to return as wiser citizens of a future Manipur. Assam Rifles over a period of time has made sustained efforts to expose young minds to pockets of excellence in various region of India. Such visits in past have have been conducted in places like Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi and Amritsar. To expose farmers to modern means of Agriculture, tailor made tour was organised from Ukhrul Dist to green fields of Punjab. Based on the encouraging feedback and existing persistent demand of Moreh elders, a special tour was organised in Mar 12 for community leaders of Moreh to Amritsar and Agra besides Delhi. The community leaders were thrilled to see the western end of Indian portion of Trans Asian Highway(TAH) as they themselves were the custodians of Eastern portion of TAH. Such exposure of social economic and cultural facets of Indian kaleidoscope has synergized the efforts of local populace and Friends of Manipur towards mantra of ‘ Peace and Prosperity’ in Manipur. The state of Manipur becomes very jubilant in the months of Oct-Dec due to festival season. Assam Rifles will make all out efforts to be part of the festivities by ensuring peaceful environment and reaching out to remote areas by way of medical camps, provision of water supply schemes and solar lights besides encouraging infrastructural development.
