IMPHAL, June 1: The All Manipur Students’ Guardians’ Association and the Ghanapriya Women’s College Students’ Union have expressed their support to the ongoing demands for implementation of the Inner Line permit System in the state.

The All Manipur Students’ Guardians’ Association (AMSGO) has informed during a press conference to support and join the movements of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) demanding implementation of the ILP in the state if the government fails to produce a white paper to implement the same.

Addressing media persons at its office, S Sumati, secretary AMSGO said the government should produce a white paper to implement ILP instead of taking action against JCILPS and solve the issue. ILP is necessary to protect the indigenous people of the state and the committee’s move is for the people’s welfare.

The state Assembly Session in 2012 had resolved the necessity for the implementation of the ILP in the state and had also informed the central government for the same. However, as the state government did not take the required initiatives, ILP is not yet implemented here, she added.

She pointed out that a meeting was held on May 20 last attended by Cabinet Ministers and the representatives of JCILPS and discussed about the implementation of ILP in the state. As the government do not act on its resolution taken in the Assembly, the committee is taking up the agitation, she said.

It is unfortunate that instead of bringing a solution to the issue, the government has instead warned to take action against the committee and its volunteers if any anti-social elements turn up in the movements, she said.

Such actions will not bring any solution. The 60 MLAs who had resolved in the Assembly should willingly go to the jail for their inability to do what they need to do regarding the ILP implementation, Sumati concluded.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Ghanapriya Women’s College Students’ Union has expressed support of the union in the ongoing demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state.  The students’ body reminded the Govt of Manipur on the rights for the protection of Manipuri identity which is guaranteed by the Constitution of India and further said that identity and culture preservation is related with the politics of demography. So, Govt. of Manipur must implement Inner Line Permit system in Manipur, said the Women’s Student Body.
