The Minister of Culture & Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja; and the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Development of North East Region & Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar, has jointly inaugurated the Centre for North Eastern Culture, at Centre for Cultural Resources & Training (CCRT) at Dwarka here today.
The setting up of Centre for North Eastern Culture is in line with the direction given by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh after interacting with a group of Youth from the North Eastern Region in December 2009, to promote dissemination of the rich and diverse cultural heritage and tradition as well as modern expression of creativity of the North Eastern States.
This Centre is as a result of collaborative efforts of CCRT, an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture & North Eastern Council, the Regional Planning body of the North Eastern Region. NEC and CCRT entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in December 2011 for the operation of the Centre for North East Culture. The Centre will work under the overall of management and control of the Director
General, CCRT.
Government of India made an earnest effort to bring about an end to the disturbed condition in Mizoram and to restore peace and harmony. Toward this end, an accord was signed between the Mizo National Front and the Union Government on 30 June 1986. The formalization of Mizoram State took place on 20th February, 1987. The people of the State, recently celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the
famous Mizo Peace Accord. An Exhibition to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Mizo Peace Accord is the first event is being held in the Centre for North Eastern Culture for four days from today.
The North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC) and North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), the two PSUs under Ministry of DoNER have also set up a Craft Exhibition to showcase some of the handicrafts & handlooms and products of the North Eastern Region. The NEHHDC attempts to develop and promote the indigenous crafts of the region by connecting craftsmen to prospective markets and consumers and generating economic, cultural and
social opportunities for creators while adding cultural value for consumers, while NERAMAC supports farmers/producers of North East to get remunerative prices for their produce and also to enhance the agricultural procurement, processing and marketing infrastructure in the Region.
Ministry of DoNER also released the Human Development Report of North East States prepared by it during the inaugural show. The Report is an attempt to evaluate performance of North Eastern States in recent times on sectors having direct impact on human development such as health, education and basic amenities like drinking water & sanitation. This will help in better targeting of schemes and projects in the NE States.

Five militants were apprehended by troops during the last 24 hours. Troops of Red Shield Division achieved another major success in counter insurgency operations wherein they apprehended four militants . 5 ASSAM RIFLES of the Senapati Brigade of the division apprehended SS Maj Shoiba of NSCN (IM) at Vakho near Senapati, in a major blow to NSCN (IM) as Shoiba was controlling the complete extortion racket of the NSCN (IM) in the region. He was involved in the procurement and supply of arms and ammunition for the NSCN (IM). He was handed over to Imphal West Police Station.
In another operation 43 ASSAM RIFLES of the division apprehended a KNF (P) cadre identified as SS Lt Sonlet Haokip, from Kanglatongbi Bazar while he was carrying out extortion. Four extortion slips were recovered from the apprehended cadre. He was handed over to Police Station Sekmai.
Troops of 6/8 Gorkha Rifles of Loktak Brigade carried out a joint operation with Police Commandos of Bishenpur and apprehended an active cadre of UPPK from ward No 2, Bishenpur, identified as SS Cpl Moinam Adat, s/o Moinam Hanan, age 26 yrs, r/o Bishenpur and recovered one Chinese grenade. He was handed over to Police Station Bishenpur. In another operation troops of 46 ASSAM RIFLES of the division were successful in apprehending an UTLA cadre L/Cpl Vumcha while involved in unlawful activities related to elections. The individual was handed over to Police Station, Imphal West.
In another incident at Heirok-ll, troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation and apprehended one UNLF cadre . The apprehendee was identified as No 863, Moira Meghchandra Singh .
