Imphal. May 17 NNN : Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) along with members of Senior Citizens’ Forum, public leaders and K.B. Sharma will take part in a mass hunger strike on the day of the first monsoon session of Manipur Legislative Assembly to demand the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur.
This was stated by the president of FREINDS Sapamcha Jadumani in a press conference at its office today. He said that FREINDS have been demanding the implementation of ILP system from 2005 in order to check the entry of foreigners into the state of Manipur as a result of which the indigenous population is in danger of being completely assimilated.
He stated that all the appeals and demands to maintain the territorial and emotional integrity of the state will be useless if the indigenous communities get extinct due to assimilation by the floods of outsiders coming into the state daily in the absence of ILP to check and regulate the entry of foreigners.
In connection with the demand to implement the ILP system in Manipur, FREINDS has initiated a signature campaign from May 10 starting with the signature of the titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba and which will include the signatures of people living in different parts of the state which will then be submitted to the government of Manipur along with a memorandum during the monsoon session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The mass hunger strike on the first day of the monsoon session of Manipur Legislative Assembly has been organized to show support to K.B. Sharma, who had announced earlier to media persons of the state that he would go on a fast unto death to demand the implementation of the ILP system in Manipur.
Jadumani appealed to the people of Manipur living in the hills and valleys to support the FREINDS in its demand to the government of Manipur to implement the ILP system in the state before the indigenous population of the state get wiped out due to influx of foreigners into the state.
