Imphal, August 23 MNS NNN : Unidentified men have reportedly kidnapped a 37-year-old man from Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai in Imphal West demanding ransom of a sum of Rs 10 lakh.
Reports said Nameirakpam Bomen alias Amarjeet, son of N Athouba , a small time contractor had been whisked away from his residence by some unidentified men coming in a Maruti van around 3:30 p.m. of August 21.
Decrying the kidnapping, a large number of womenfolk staged a sit-in protest at Chingmeirong Shangakpham bazaar. Several placards were also held by the women demonstrators condemning the kidnapping of Bomen. The women protesters were mostly local residents of Lairik Yengbam Leikai and Laipham Khunou.
Nameirakpam Sanatombi, the mother of Bomen told reporters that an unspecified number of unknown persons travelling in a Maruti van took him away from his house.
On the following day, the kidnappers had demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakh to Bomen’s brother over telephone to free him from their custody, Sanatombi added. Since then the kidnappers have kept the telephone in switch off mode.
Placards which read such as “Release Bomen immediately on humanitarian ground” and “Don’t kidnap people for ransom” were held by the protesters at the demonstration.
