IMPHAL, April 9: A senior constable in the Imphal West district Police was reportedly arrested by the Imphal Police station today for allegedly firing at the residence of a widow at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.

The accused is identified as one Ningthoujam Ingocha, 54, of Uripok Achom Leikai.

Sources said that the accused is currently the post commander of VDF post situated at Heirangoithong.

Ingocha allegedly fired a round at the residence of the widow Ayekpam Binodini, 60, using an unauthorized gun last night around 10:30 pm. One 9mm pistol along with a live rounds and an empty was recovered from the possession of the Ingocha.

The accused is reported to be a drug user and the motive behind the attack could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

IMPHAL, April 13: As a part of the Military Civic Action program taken up under the aegis of IGAR(S), the 23 Assam rifle posted at Sagolmang today distributed three solar street lamps to the people of Khundrakpam assembly constituency.

IMPHAL April 20: Based on intelligence reports, BSF personnel arrested a person for taking money from SSC candidates. The person identified as one Akham Manihar,51, presently a head lineman of the Electricity department.
Manihar had taken Rs 40,000 from one candidate for his assured selection at the recruitment rally held at Koirengei airfield. The BSF intelligence on hearing the news arrested the culprit on April 18. The arrested person also disclosed on taking money from other candidates, a press release by 2IC (Ops) Nanak Chand states.

IMPHAL April 22:  A public meet on plebiscite was held at Nambol Phoijing community hall today.The meet was organized by Phoijing  Awang Apunba Nupi Lup under the theme “ Manipur-India muknaba amasung muknaba asi wakheibada miyam saruk yaba”.The meet was attended by Ningombam Ranjit Singh ,president of  Phoijjing Awang Youth Club,Khunaaijam Dijamani,retired senior lecturer of Nambol N Sanoi College, Ningthoujam Ibemhal ,president of Phoijing Awang Apunba Nupi Lup,and Angom Bimola Devi Councillor of ward number 3 (Nambol Municipal Council)as the  presidium members .
N. Bimol ,social activist and advocate Angomcha Araba ,chief administrator Life watch, were the  resource  persons. Angomcha Araba in his speech stated that the right to self determination is a basic fundamental right of a person. The UN  approves the plebiscite under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the right to self governance.  Such freedom has been allegedly disregarded by the Indian nation and the struggle for independence has been an unresolved issue for long. The need of the hour is to promote the stance of holding the plebiscite by the public, he said.
N Bimol in a similar note expressed that the Manipuris have been living independently for the last 2000 years, the public have a desire to live independently and the Indian nation has been trying to suppress the public, the wanton acts of violence perpetrated by the armed security forces is testament that the state has been suppressed by force. This kind of treatment is sure to be met with stiff resistance and that has been done so. The conflict cannot be resolved by armed means alone but the democratic exercise of the plebiscite is a means to bringing peace in the state, he said.
The meet unanimously resolved to push forward the agenda of holding the plebiscite with the help of the public and to highlight the public voice to the UN and other human rights organizations, the release said.

IMPHAL, April 24: A meet on plebiscite was held at the Lainingthou Achangba Community Sekta about 1:30 pm this afternoon.
The meet was presided by Haobam Yaiskul, president Sekta Sporting Club Sekta, L. Nganbi vice president AMKHIL, Mayanglambam Thoithoi, president Sekta Paibi Lup and Khaidem Tomba, president village development committee.
At the same time, Advocate Araba, chief administrator Life watch and Manihar, president MAPI council participated as the resource person of the meet.
After deliberately enlightening the gathering by the resource persons and the dignitaries on the need of peoples’ participation in the Indo-Manipur conflict, the meet unanimously adopt two resolutions.

The individual have been identified as one Huidrom Inaocha Singh alias Ireinganba, 35, s/o H. Tomba Singh of Serau bazaar Part-II and was handed over to Kakching Police station, informed a statement of PRO IGAR (S).

IMPHAL May 2: Journalism is a noble and humble profession, if one gets involved in it than one gets easily addicted said T.N. Hoakip, Minister Information and Public Relation at the inaugural function of 15 days Basic Course in News Reporting, organized by Department of Information and Public Relation, Government of Manipur, at Manipur Press club, Imphal, Today. He said that the readership rate determines literacy rate of a state, however, in Manipur the rate is very low.

The inaugural function was presided by TN Haokip, Minister IPR as the chief guest and Kengoo Zuringla, additional director ,IPR as the president respectively. For the past 15 years DIPR has been organizing such courses from time to time said Kengoo Zuringla.

The participants should take this course as an eye opener or a stepping stone to this noble profession, she added while giving her speech. Many seasoned journalists of the state, officers, media persons as well as participants of the 15 days Basic Course were present during the function. The 15 days Basic Course is commencing from today till May 19.

IMPHAL May 3: The assistant publicity secretary of the KCP (Maoist), Nonglen Meitei in a press release stated that the grenade attack at the residence of one Thongam Nobin of Lamsang, who is the right hand man of MLA Brajabidhu was perpetrated by the outfit.

IMPHAL, May 19: In a bizarre incident, a father attempted to murder his own son during an altercation between the two at Kangla Songomsnag village, of Imphal east district under Lamlai police station evening around 5.30 pm on May 18.

According to a source, father Longjam Abhiram, 48 of Kangla Shangomshang attacked his own son identified as Nabakumar alias Manaoba 22, yesterday evening while the son was resting on his bed using a hammer.

During the attack the son received serious head injuries and is stated to be admitted in a critical condition at the Shija hospital. The father is however reported to be absconding till the filling of this report.

In the meantime, in connection with the incident, the local residents of Kangla Shangomshang and elders of the family held a meeting at Kangla Shangomshang village today and decided that the absconded father will be expelled from the locality forever.

A case has been registered with the Lamlai police regarding the incident.

IMPHAL, May 26: At least two occupants of a Tata Magic vehicle has remained traceless after the four wheeler passenger vehicle they were traveling on plunged into the banks of Imphal River. The incident happened this afternoon around 1.30pm at Wangoi Laiphrakpam Leikai in Imphal West.

One occupant of the vehicle however managed to escape unhurt in the incident but whereabouts of the two other occupants cannot be traced as the vehicle plunged into the water of Imphal River.

Local sources said the vehicle was on a test drive after repairing at a local automobile workshop located at Wangoi. One of the occupant identified as Khomdram Biramani managed to escape from the ill fated vehicle. However, the two other occupants of the vehicle identified as Moirangthem Pashuram, 32 of Haoreibi Makha Leikai and Khaidem Yaima, 32 of Wangoi Mamang Leikai are still missing.

IMPHAL, May 28: 27 Assam Rifles of 9 sector under HQ IGAR (South) organized a `Know your Assam Rifles and Army`™ camp at Waikhong on May28, according to its press release.

According to a release, the camp was organized to acquaint the youths with the multiple facets of Assam Rifles and army. Around one hundred and fifty students from various schools attended the function.

The event included a lecture cum presentation, screening of documentary on the Assam Rifles projecting the all round development undertaken by them and followed with a cultural programme by the students. The cultural programme was further followed by an interactive session, presentation of sports amenities and display of various equipments. A lecture on hygiene and medical check-up of the st5udents was also carried out by their medical team, it added.
