Jayanta was charged with distributing pamphlets threatening to block their names from selection as beneficiaries for various schemes and annulling their membership if they did not vote for the MSCP candidate.

Barain (32) /o Khangchujin Barian of Ijeirong village from the eastern side of Lamlong bridge according to a police press release from the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East. It further mentioned that upon further verification, Johnah Barain (Sl. No. 1) disclosed that he joined UNPC in 2008 through a person identified as S/S Chirman Pearson Tangkhul and that he is now holding the rank of General Secretary of UNPC while Abija Barain disclosed that he joined the outfit through Johnah Barian Take. They further disclosed that they were involved in extorting money from the general public, government official besides transportation of arms and ammunition and recruiting young boys to the outfit.

PRESS NOTE

Manipuri Muslim Development Forum (MMDF) wishes all contestants of the 10th Bidhan Sabha Election to be held on 28th Jan 2012. We wish that this election brings changes resulting in overall development of Manipur and peaceful co-existence of all communities. MMDF is a representative body of sections of Manipuri youth around the globe, working to bring development. We believe that the development of a state depends on the empowerment of all the communities in the state. With this vision, we have a list of public demands or referendum (Mandate 2012) for the concerned candidates contesting in this assembly election.

1. Education :
– Sponsorship to every first divisioner (>70% or above marks) in class X & XII
– Sponsorship of students needing extra financial support , at least 3 nos in every mohalla
– Support for 10 Madrasas all over in Manipur in the form of Darul Hadith and library for upgradation to Fazil Course
– At least one dedicated high school and higher secondary school for Muslim girls
– Establishment of a Muslim Education Trust (non-religious) that can in the long run start educational institutions including a Muslim University in Manipur

2. Health
– At least one maternity centre equipped with latest machines in every constituency
– One full fledged Gymnasium in every club/ leikai with a qualified instructor

3. Economy including employment
– Establishment and Support to SHGs (Self Help Groups) of women, at least one in every mohalla/ ward so that women who are engaged in domestic labour, petty trading, and drug trafficking may engage themselves in dignified jobs / businesses.
– Self employment of educated unemployed, especially graduates, at least 3 nos in every mohalla
– Reservation of 9% of government jobs for Meitei-Pangal community within OBC category

Infrastructure:
– Make the link roads among Muslim villages pucca or state highway standard for better connectivity to
facilitate transport and communication so as to generate additional business for the have-nots.
– Make river banks flood proof.
– Upgradation of Power Transformers to help improving economy.

4. Cultural
– To establish a single point of contact for Hajj in every Assembly Constituency to avoid inconvenience to Hajj applicants and act as information centre
– To establish cultural funds in every assembly constituency for promotion of maarifat, naat etc

5. Human Rights
– Repeal of AFSPA from Manipur for the full enjoyment of constitutional rights guaranteed all the citizens of
India

6. Social Welfare
-To deliver Old age monthly pension to the needy and deserving persons
-To deliver Widow monthly pension and the allowances given by government to needy and deserving persons.

7. Media
– To establish a newspaper and news agency

LAMKA, January 19: The lone independent candidate in 58-Churachandpur assembly constituency Chintuahlian Guite has promised to reduce unemployment problems in the state by paying greater stress on private enterprises and various types of small industries like plants for manufacturing of medicines raw material of which are locally available.

He was speaking at a program to release his election manifesto at Saulim Resturant today.

An MBA post graduate from UK, Chintuahlian mooted the promotion of internet marketing in partnership with big multinational companies as well as adequate emphasis on making the local people more self reliant.

Heavy fluctuation in prices and artificially created scarcity of commodities, even during economic blockades should be controlled, he said. He also laid bare his plans to improve water and power supply in the district.

IMPHAL, January 19: The Maoist Communist Party warns that individuals who are in cahoots with the Congress and the CPI despite the boycott imposed by the outfit have been identified and if they do not cease their election activities will be awarded fitting punishment before or after the conclusion of the elections.

A release by Nonglen Meitei, publicity and propaganda secretary of the outfit further states that certain positive changes have been observed in the conduct of the present election as compared to yesteryears.But, the distribution of bribe money to woo voters have increased manifold.

There are certain ministers who have been trying to make a mockery out of the dictates imposed for the welfare of the public and the workers aiding them have been identified. The Maoist pointed five workers of the Chief Minister, six workers of minister P Parijat,five workers of N Biren and five workers of minister K ranjit. IMPHAL, January 19: A bomb blast occurred at 7.20 pm on Jan 18th at Wangjing Tentha Block Congress office, Wangjing Bazaar. No casualties were reported. Another bomb blast took place inside the residential complex of M. Herojit of Bamon Kampu, a Congress worker, today around 3.30 am. In another incident, a bomb was lobbed at the residence of Nangbam Roshan at Taret Khun, Khundrakpam at 6.30 am today. However, the bomb did not go off. Roshan is said to be a worker of Deputy Speaker Thokchom Lokeshor. An IED was recovered near the residence of Speaker Irengbam Hemochandra, at Maibam Leirak Machin Singjmei Chingna Makha at 11.30 am today. Singjamei police officials and Manipur police bomb squad later collected the bomb safely.
