Imphal. May 9 NNN: All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has endorsed the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur (ZSUM)’s effort to speed up the construction of Barak bridge between Dikiuram and Katang in Tamenglong district.
However, AMTU urged the Zeliangrong students’ body to rather opt for legal angle instead of the economic blockade.
The AMTU urged the ZSUM to pursue their demand for the progress of the construction of the bridge over Barak river between Dikiuram and Katang in Tamenglong district through legal means instead of its proposed “economic blockade” as it will adversely affect the common people economically while affecting the government to a lesser degree.
The AMTU also appealed to the concerned department of Manipur government, through a press note jointly issued by its general secretary and co-ordinator, Tamenglong zone, to take necessary action on the matter instead of waiting for the proposed economic blockade by ZSUM along National Highway 37 (53).
The press note stated that AMTU endorsed the indisputable claim by ZSUM for suitable and convincing progress of the Bailey bridge over Barak river between Dikiuram and Katang in Tamenglong district.
The work order for the construction of the Bailey bridge was issued in 2006 by P.W.D. to the contractor, and denying of such essential basic amenities to the tribal people of Tamenglong is violation of human rights and against constitutional rights, added the note.
In the interest of the general public, AMTU stated that the concerned department must take necessary action on the matter instead of waiting for the proposed economic blockade by ZSUM. AMTU also appealed to the ZSUM to pursue the matter through legal angle instead of an economic blockade which will hit the common public economically while the government is less affected.

Imphal. May 9 NNN: An ultimatum will be submitted to the government of India on May 12 by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha regarding the alleged murder homicide of Richard Loitam after a meeting of all Yuva Morchas at New Delhi.
Speaking to media persons in a press meet today at BJP office in Imphal, the president of BJP, Manipur Shanti Kumar Sharma said that representatives from Manipur left Imphal for New Delhi to attend the meeting of Yuva Morcha from different states of India regarding the suspicious death of Richard Loitam, a student of Architecture studying in Bangalore.
Shanti Kumar said that BJP Manipur Pradesh had informed “Sampark” (a help centre for North East people) cell as soon as the BJP heard about the suspicious death of Richard Loitam, and without losing any time the Sampark cell had met the chief minister of Karnataka as well as the home minister of India and demanded a white paper regarding the suspicious death of the student from Manipur.
Saying that the BJP has been highlighting the issues of Manipur in the Parliament, Shanti Kumar stated that the case of Richard Loitam is also taken very seriously by the party in the state and centre and the BJP national president Nitin Gadkare will be visiting Gauhati on May 11 where the BJP Manipur representative will meet him and apprise him about the case of the death of Richard Loitam in Bangalore in detail.
The Sampark cell at Mumbai led by its vice president Ponam Mahajan staged a sit-in protest in Mumbai on Tuesday, said the president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, and informed that All India Yuva Morcha BJP will be meeting on May 12 at New Delhi and after the meeting will submit an ultimatum to government of India to bring out a white paper on the truth about the death of Richard Loitam within one week.
Various forms of agitations will be launched across the country by BJP Yuva Morcha if the government fails to solve the mysterious and suspicious death of the student from Manipur, said Shanti Kumar.
BJP will do its best to bring out the truth regarding the death of Richard Loitam and will meet the Prime Minister and Home Minister at the earliest possible time and even demand for a CBI investigation on the case, if needed, added Shanti Kumar.
