IMPHAL, Jun 28: 29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a Church prayer with civilians of Joupi and surrounding villages on June 25 at Battalion Headquarters Joupi with the aim to strengthen bond with local populace. It was attended by Commandant along with troops of 29 Assam Rifles and village chief/secretaries of 16 villages. A total of 46 civilians were in attendance. The Church programme included prayer, hymns and gospel messages by village chiefs and troops of ‘Uttam Untees,’ according to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S).

IMPHAL, Jun 28: Renewing its struggle for demilitarisation of Manipur University campus, North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has given an all India protest call on June 29. Strongly condemning the continued presence of Assam Rifles camp in Manipur University campus, NEFIS had in 2015 organized an extensive signature campaign against “campus militarization” and submitted it to the President of India.
According to a statement, different State units of NEFIS will hold protest demonstrations in different centres like Delhi, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kokrajhar and Gwalior. NEFIS Manipur Unit in coordination with Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) will organise protest demonstration outside Assam Rifles office gate at Manipur University.

IMPHAL, Jun 28: BJYM, Wangjing-Tentha Mandal has accused agents of misappropriating rice under NFSA meant for beneficiaries of the AC for the period from Nov 2016 to March 2017. Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, president of BJYM, Wangjing-Tentha Mandal Ksh Priyobrata said rice under NFSA meant for beneficiaries under the AC for the period from Nov last year to March 2017 were withdrawn by the former agents. But the rice was not distributed to the public till date. He further said that even during the time when the rice was distributed to the beneficiaries, the amount of rice withdrawn from FPS godown and the amount of rice distributed to the public were not proportionate and there are evidences of these practices. Priyobrata said that a case will be filed against these agents and their collaborators in order to facilitate legal action against them.

IMPHAL, Jun 28: Medical team of 2 AR of 9 Sector AR under aegis of HQ IGAR (S) saved the life of two snake bite victims on June 26, according to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S). A boy named Th Thoungamba (7) of Athokpam Khunou, Thoubal district was bitten by a snake while playing and another victim named Y Suranjoy Singh (35) of Haokha was bitten by a snake while farming. Both were immediately rushed to the unit hospital of 2 AR. The victims were readily attended by the medical team and first aid was administered. Later the victims were referred to District Hospital, Thoubal.
