IMPHAL, May 13: The Bishnupur District Police commandos conducted search operation at Nambol Makha Leikai and arrested a women activist of PREPAK, identified as Thounaojam (O) Bhanu alias Remina Devi, 38, w/o Th Noren from Kongkham Awang Leikai.

A press release of the Bishnupur Police said ten live rounds of 9mm pistol was recovered from her possession.

It further mentioned that she disclosed that she was involved in extortion of money from Govt. officials and businessmen in Bishnupur District under the command of capt. Erei of PREPAK.

IMPHAL, May18: Representatives of different organizations joint hands and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, on May18, regarding various matters according to a press release by the organizations.

The said representatives of the organizations are Poukhonlung, Convenor, Zeliangrong Students`™ Union Nungba Area (ZSUNA), Jamuna Kamei, Secretary, Bazar Board, Nungba, K.Bandai, Thoubei(Pei) Nungba, Angampou, President, Nungba Youth Organisation and they have put forward the following matters before the Government: 1) The sub-division officer/ sub-division magistrate/block development officer, Kajaigai Gangmei be transferred within a week. 2) Non-payment of cash component under MSDP and IAY. 3) Misappropriate use of MGNREGS fund under Material Component. 4) Partiality/bias in work allotment and indulgence in Nungba village affairs, it added.

The people are grievously suffering due to the above factors. The organizations demand the Government for immediate action and in case of failure, the organizations are willing to take up democratic agitation and protest, it added.

Newmai News NetworkSENAPATI, May 25:  While “cordially” inviting everyone to take part in the formal launching of ceremony of the Manipur unit of Naga People`s Party (NPF) at Senapati on Saturday, leaders  of the party said that the sole aim has been to encompass  and work together with all communities irrespective of caste, creed, colour, contours and also with all the like-minded political parties so as to give more teeth in bringing about peace and progress in the region.
NPF Manipur state unit president G Gaingam and its political affairs secretary Ningreingam Ruivah expressed their optimism that the regional political party will do well in the state.
NPF had come to power in Nagaland after the year 2003 assembly elections. It is running the government in Nagaland for the second consecutive term after winning the 2008 assembly elections.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the party, G. Gaingam and Ningreingam Ruivah have extended “cordial” invitation to all leaders of political parties, the social organisations, student bodies, women and youth organisations, the church and its associations, tribe based organisations, the peasants, intellectuals, academics and professionals of the state to “attend and be part of this auspicious occasion”. IMPHAL May 27: `Uchida Amuk Hanjillu` a stage production performed by the artist of People`™s Arts and Dramatic Association (PADA), Top Khongnang Makhong, will be presented in Navarang National Children Theatre Festival 2011 which will be held from June 3rd till 9th at Kerela, said a press release by the Secretary of the Association. The play was written by Warrepam Ratan Singh and was directed by Laisram Randhoni, the release added. IMPHAL June 2: Demanding for a full fledged revenue district, the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers Association (AMESTA), Jiribam in association with the teachers of Jiri College staged a sit in protest in Jiribam, today. During the protest staged by the teachers, various placards were put up that read as `we want our demand, eikhoigi demand athuba matamda pigadabani, we stand still our demand, convert Jiribam into full fledge district`.

Notably, a similar protest was also staged by the Jiribam district demand committee (JDDC) at the premises of MSF, Jiri branch situated in Jiribam Babupara at Tamenglong district for two days starting from May 31. The Jiribam district demand committee (JDDC) is a conglomeration of various women social organizations, they are All Jiribam Meira Paibee(AJMP), Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup (JIMPAL),AMWOVA,Jiri Branch, WASAK, WWS and Jiri Keithel Ima Chaokhat Thourang Marup.

It may be mentioned that the Jiribam district demand committee had set May 30 as the deadline to the state government in regard to their demand for converting the Jiribam sub division into a full fledged revenue district and mentioned that further democratic protests would be initiated if the government fail to meet their demand within stipulated time.

Chandramani, former Director health services early this morning at around 7 am.The grenade was later safely retrieved by the police bomb squad and safely disposed off at Langol.However it is not clear as to why the bomb was left. No individual or organizations has claimed responsible for the incident.

The MDC exhorted the chiefs to carry out development schemes properly as it were meant for them and the people homed to the village while pointing out the importance of having such type of discussion for the peoples sake vene in the near future.
He said he has taken out list of Job Card holders and bemoaned the failure on the part of the chiefs to come forward and then tender suggestions pertaining to the need for either additions or deletion in the list of the Job Card holders.
Disclosing about the complain from various sections of people in the areas he represent that some village chiefs without forming a village development committee for implementation of BRGF indulges in nepotic act of putting any names whom they favoured or create any names so as to make it appear on the faces that it were equally benefitted by villagers he said they have to be very sincere and all this flagship schemes are given by the central government to make the state particularly backward region developed on priority basis if India is to be a developed country.

IMPHAL, June 13: At least two persons, a motorcyclist and a cylist, were killed in two separate road mishaps which occurred along Tiddim road today.

In the first incident, a motorcylist succumbed to his injuries after being given brief treatment at Shija Hospitals, Langol as he was hit by a mini passenger vehicle along Tiddim road this morning.

Sources said the incident occurred at Thingugei Makha Leikai under Moirang police station around 9.30am this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Laishram Birchandra s/o late Biramangol of Ningthoukhong Mathak Leikai.

In another road mishap today at around 2.50 pm which occurred at Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Imphal, a cyclist succumbed to his injuries after he was hit by a speeding passenger bus plying between Imphal and Churachandpur.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

Lamphel police have retrieved the dead body of from the spot and deposited it at the RIMS Mortuary for identification.

IMPHAL June 23: The Women Action for Development (WAD) strongly condemns the act of firing shells and mock bombs by a combined team of Yairipok and Thoubal police at Yairipok Singda Village of Thoubal district on June 19.

A press release from WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam said the five women who were injured in the incident belongs to poor families and they were simply advocating their basic access to PDS and MGNREGS which the concerned pradhan and members failed to distribute.

Further, WAD also condemned MLA K Meghachandra for failing in his duty to look after the grievances of the village and his escort for assaulting the women protesting his visit. The statement appeals to the government and the concerned authorities to provide medical and financial assistance to the injured victims who are hospitalized at present, and further to ensure timely distribution of the schemes meant for the public.

IMPHAL June 26: The Communist Party of India, Manipur state council has condemned the recent rise in the prices of fuels such as diesel, kerosene and cooking gas which was decided by the UPA led govt, said a press release by the state secretary, CPI. The release further added that in a meeting convened today, the state executive strongly demanded the central govt to withdraw from keeping in view of the general public who have already suffered on many occasions previously in same situation.

In another such similar demand, the All India Youth Federation in a press release also demanded that the government should reconsider their stand on price rise on LPG and other petroleum products. The release added that the association vowed to take full participation in all initiatives that will be taken up all over India by All India Youth Federation National council in this connection.

IMPHAL, June 29: The award distribution function of 13th Major Pagin Kipgen Foundation Meritorious Award, 2011 was held at District Council Hall, Kangpokpi.

SH Seipu, chairman Sadar Hills ADC, Thangminlien Kipgen, chairman Hill Areas Committee, and Haokholal Hangshing, vice-chairman Sadar Hills ADC, as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Altogether 10 students were awarded the meritorious award carrying Rs 5000 each for their outstanding performance at the board examinations.

IMPHAL, July 2: Troops of 23 Assam Rifles has claimed to have arrested a cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman cadre while conducting a search operation in the general area of Leitanpokpi at around 10:30 pm yesterday.

According to a pro statement the arrested cadre is identified as one s/s sgt. Salam Ibohal alias Rochy alias Lion Sing, 42, s/o (L) Manglenjao of Leitanpokpi Mayai Leikai.

He has been handed over to the Lamlao police station, said a statement of the PRO IGAR (S).

IMPHAL July 4: Manipur Senmit Ehon Lup and Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup today organized a one day free medical camp at Khwairamband Ema Keithel (Purana Bazaar in collaboration with ARISTO pharmaceutical private Limited. Earlier a similar medical camp was organized on December 2010, jointly by MSEL and MKNM.

The free medical camp was attended upon by Dr. L. Bikramjit Singh and Dr. Suraj Singh M.O. (medicine), Dr. Ramananda Ophthalmologist and Dr. Hecter Dentist.

L. Memma, secretary general of MSEL expressed that the free medical camp was organized to facilitate various local venders of Khwairamband bazaar keeping in view of their economic conditions. The medical camp is organized for the welfare of vendors of Khwairamband bazaar, she added.

More than 200 venders attended today’s medical camp. She stated that the medical camp was started from 9 am and will continue till 4 pm in the evening. She further mentioned that such free medical camps will be organized on a regular basis.

Roseline was wife of K Taruba, Khullapka of Maram Centre village.

She founded Maram Centre village in 1968 and was a pioneer of Roman Catholic religion at Maram.

NEW DELHI, July 10 (AGENCY): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi again Sunday to discuss the imminent cabinet reshuffle, party sources said. They met on Saturday too.

Sunday`s will be their fourth meeting in three weeks.

According to a party source, the reshuffle will be effected the coming week, perhaps as early as Monday.

Congress sources said the big four ministers – Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna – are unlikely to be touched though the initial thinking was to move out Krishna.

The reshuffle may see both Dinesh Trivedi and Mukul Roy of the Trinamool Congress continuing in the cabinet.

In his interaction with a group of editors June 29, Manmohan Singh said the cabinet reshuffle was a `work in progress`.

IMPHAL, July 17: Various farmers’ organizations of the state have condemned the agriculture minister Ph Parijat saying that he is playing divisive roles in the present fertilizer crisis.

The separate releases from All Manipur Progressive Farmers’ Association, Heirok Farmers’ Society, Nongpok Imphal Loumi-Sinmi Apunba Lup, Ngairangbam Farmers’ Society and Khundrakpam Apunba Loumi Lup stated that the farmers of the state are facing shortage of fertilizers in the state due to irresponsible act of the concerned agriculture minister. He cannot keep his promises to the farmers. The farmers are still buying the fertilizers at a much higher rate than the actual price fixed by the state government.

The farmers further appealed to the concerned authority to take up necessary actions to solve the present fertilizer crisis.
