IMPHAL August 8: The office of the Manipur Film development corporation limited in a press release issued by its managing director has said that the entry forms for participation of Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) organized by the Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government  of India is now available at the office of the MFDC Ltd.  located at Palace gate in Imphal. The release added that interested short story, documentary and animation film producers or makers of Manipur may collect the form from the Office of MFDC Ltd during the office hour. The last date for reaching the entry forms to Films and Division, Government of India, Mumbai, is 15/9/2011, the release added.

IMPHAL, Aug 12: The proscribed KCP (MC) has shown regards to the departed leaders of the state on the occasion of 120th Patriots` Day to be observed widely on August 13.

A statement of the outfit signed by assitant secretary Korouhanba stated that the great leaders of Manipur had fought valiantly against the mighty British rulers. Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and other partrios had laid down their lives at the gallows for the sake of the motherland.

IMPHAL, Aug 21: The 124th birth anniversary of Laininghan Ibungo Naoria Phullo was observed by Apokpa Marup at Naorem Chapru Kha Community Hall.

The observation was attended by agriculture director L Palendro, art and culture deputy director W Mera, agriculture chief engineer K Manoranjan, ZCC Keishamthong vice-president Paozarung Thamei, ZCC Mahabali vice-president Kamei Dun Kamson, H Puren of Apokpa Marup as the dignitaries.

IMPHAL, Aug 25: MLA Ng Bijoy, during zero hour of today’s Assembly sitting, has sought assistance from the state government to rescue 86 passengers who are stranded at Ukhrul town for the last many days due to the ongoing economic blockade.

These passengers have come in three tourist buses along Jessami-Imphal Road from Guwahati. The stranded passengers are facing lots of problems, added Bijoy.

During the zero hour, MLA T Mangibabu has also drawn the attention of the state government to address the problem of flood at Thanga, Hiyanglam and Moirang by opening the doors of Ithai Barage completely.

IMPHAL Sept 5: The 24th convocation ceremony of Indira Gandhi Open University was held today all over India.

In Imphal, the ceremony was held at the conference hall of Hotel Tampha situated at North AOC, which was organized by the Imphal Regional Centre of IGNOU for the 6th time.

The function was attended by Dr. S. Dilan Singh Regional Director IGNOU and Dr. L. Jibonkumar Sharma, Director, Manipur Institute of Management Science as the special guests.

During the convocation, 50 learners out of the total 158 learners of IGNOU Imphal Regional Center who had successfully competed in different courses this year were conferred degree and diploma certificates.

However, at the national level the number of learners that had registered for the convocation including the number of learners from Imphal center for the 24th Convocation of IGNOU is 1, 11,898 learners. All across the country the function was held at various places that were being organized by each IGNOU centers operating in different areas.  

In the mean time, as a part of the 24th convocation 2011, a special convocation was held for conferring Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) on Dalai Lama at the University campus in Delhi.

IMPHAL, Sept 12: 5/9 Gorkha Rifles celebrated their 46th Battle Honour Day which was conferred to them for the battle of Phillora in Pakistan during the 1965 Indo Pak war.

The event was held at Gothal which was graced by Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen GOC Red Shield Division, Brig Laove Verma Commander Logtak Brigade, Mr Prithviraj MLA of Moirang, and famous actor and singer Mr. Sadananda. The local populace of Moirang, Songdo and Kwakta along with members of Maira Paibi of Saiton village thoroughly enjoyed the various cultural programme  organised by the Phillora Battalion.  The soldiers of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles performed their famous Khukri Hath while the artists of Moirang troupe performed Manipuri Folk dance and Martial Arts show.  This was followed by a delicious lunch.

IMPHAL, Sept 15: 10 Assam Rifles under Red Shield Division along with the village authorities of Villages Kangchup Chingkhong and Kangchup Tuikawn conducted a cleanliness drive and ‘Shramdhan’ on 12 Sep 2011. Together with the troops of 10 Assam Rifles the villagers cleaned the dense undergrowth along the road and overgrown shrubs in the vicinity of the villages.

This campaign was started by 10 AR so as to instill a sense of cleanliness and thus render a healthy environment for the future. A total of 237 people participated in the cleanliness drive. 10 Assam Rifles also provided with refreshments for the villagers after the ‘Shramdhan’.

IMPHAL, Sept 19: Taking serious count of the recent burning down of six trucks including two trucks carrying life saving drugs at Nungkao village by suspected blockade supporters on September 16, Janata Dal (United), Manipur State unit has strongly condemned the incident.

According to a release of the party, the incident is questionable as the incident occurred due to lapse on the side of the security forces in broad daylight. It has further condemned the actions of the blockade supporters in burning down the trucks which were carrying life saving drugs as inhuman.

It has also added that the blockade supporters had knowingly burned down the two trucks as the windshields of th trucks bear the banners ‘Life saving drugs’.

Puttaparthi, Apr. 5 (ANI): Doctors attending to Indian guru, spiritual figure and educator Satya Sai Baba on Tuesday said that he remains in critical condition and on ventilator support.
With thousands of devotees converging at his headquarters in Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, the state police has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prevents unlawful assembly.
The Sai Baba has been admitted to hospital with breathing problems.
A health bulletin issued by the hospital said that his condition had deteriorated and he is now on a ventilator and receiving kidney dialysis.
“The vital systems are not adequately responding. The condition of Baba is critical. The panel of doctors treating him are doing their best to make the systems respond,” hospital director AN Safaya said in a statement.

IMPHAL, April 9: 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division organized a rural health and awareness camp at Saidon village for the people of Thingchom Tuitophui and Saidon in CC Pur district on 07 Apr 2011. The medical camp was inaugurated by Col JS Mundi CO, 1/11 Gorkha Rifles. The village chief Mr Thanga thanked the Army for conduct of the medical camp for the villagers. The aim was to provide free medical cover and educate the local population on the importance of hygiene & sanitation. Over 580 locals were treated and provided with free medicines during the camp. The Army also adopted the area for guiding and creating social awareness among the children. The populace of the area appreciated the efforts of the medical camp and suggested that more such camps be organized.
