A human chain about 6 kilometer in length was formed along the Imphal – Moreh road from Singjamei to Manipur University, Canchipur by school students to protest the inaction of Manipur government to try to solve the murder of Richard Loitam who was allegedly killed by his own hostel mates in Bangalore over a trivial matter on April 18.
Another human chain was formed along Tiddim road (National Highway 150) by school students as part of the protest against the state government regarding its lethargic approach in solving the mystery of the death of Richard Loitam.
Placards inscribed with slogans like “We want justice”, Punish the killers”, “We don’t want discrimination on NE students”, etc were displayed and slogans were raised by the school students.
The formation of the human chains protesting the sluggish response of the state government to solve the mystery regarding the death of Richard Loitam is a part of the line of protests announced by the six students’ organizations of Manipur – All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), SWAK and SUK.
According to the line of action announced earlier by the students’ organizations, there will be a mass students’ rally on May 7, and if there is still no positive response from the side of the state government offices will be locked up from May 8.
