Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday appealed to civil society groups and other stakeholders to refrain from calling bandhs and general strikes, saying frequent shutdowns disrupt livelihoods and adversely affect vulnerable sections, particularly daily-wage earners and students.
The Chief Minister said the state government was making every possible effort to address the issues raised by the people and urged stakeholders to cooperate with the government instead of resorting to measures that disrupt normal life.
Khemchand Singh expressed particular concern over the impact of repeated bandhs on students, warning that disruptions to the academic environment could affect their education and future career prospects.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the proposed October visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur, describing it as a significant development following the efforts of the state government and 14 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that recently travelled to New Delhi seeking implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the Census.
Khemchand Singh said he attended a reception programme at Thambal Sanglen, the BJP Manipur state office in Imphal, following his return from New Delhi, where he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He was welcomed by BJP Manipur president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, MLAs, senior party leaders and party workers.
During the programme, the Chief Minister briefed party leaders on the outcome of his meeting with Shah regarding the postponement of Census operations in Manipur.
The Centre on Monday decided to defer the proposed Census exercise in Manipur following a high-level meeting chaired by Shah. The meeting reviewed the demand from sections of the people and civil society groups that the Census be deferred until the NRC is implemented in the state.
Khemchand said the BJP’s national leadership remained aware of the sentiments, aspirations and concerns of the people of Manipur.
He also pointed to the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state as an important reflection of the Centre’s understanding of these concerns.
The Chief Minister said the state government remained committed to restoring peace, normalcy and stability in Manipur.
He also said the reopening of National Highway connectivity had enabled inter-state movement to resume, providing people with safer and more affordable travel options.
Khemchand once again appealed to all sections of society to work collectively towards restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the state.
