IMPHAL, Dec 6: The 6th edition of ‘Chinjak Festival-Merry Christmas 2015’ will be held from December 13 to 20 at Heritage Park, Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound during which around 35-40 stalls will avail various indigenous foods.

As the organisers are planning to celebrate Advent Christmas in this year’s edition of the festival, there will be bonfire and barbeque with carolling as night programme.

The inaugural function of the festival scheduled on December 13 will be attended by Manipur Baptist Convention Centre Church Rev L Simon Raomai and Don Bosco Chingmeirong Father Francis SDB.

The festival is being organized by Innovative Youth Society, Imphal in association with ERA Package Drinking Water and co-sponsored by PICASOID from BasicP and Thabak from Intellisome Consulting.

S Surchandra will be awarded with the ‘Indigenous Fish Farmer of the Year Award, 2015 during the festival.

BISHNUPUR, December 6: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, has said that the state Government taking up necessary measures to beautify Moirangm which is one of the tourist hotspots of the state.

The Chief Minister stated this during the inauguration ceremony of two markets sheds including Moirang Lamkhai Khoyon Market and Patlou Modern Fish Market.

Ibobi divulged that his Government will invest maximum funds in developing Moirang as tourist destination regardless of its minimum resources adding that preparation are over for widening the road stretch from Moirang Lamkhai to Moirang Ariba Keithel bridge.

Revealing that the road will be widen upto 50 feet each on each sides from the existing figure, Ibobi assured to give suitable compensation for affected land owners (pattadar) due to the expansion.

Apart from providing 24×7 power efforts will be made to ensure that abundant drinking water is available throughout the districts, said Ibobi.

Noting the tourist’s love for Island nation, the Chief Minister expressed his desire to convert Ishok Island into model village.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi reflecting on the newly inaugurated markets said that it would served as a platform for all business groups and activities from the entire district to converged under one roof.

He said the Government has many plans to yet to be taken up to develop the district adding that appealed the public to extend their co-operation in its initiatives in the future.

The inaugural functions was also attended by Commerce and Industries Minister-Govindas Konthoujam, Parliamentary secretary YAS and Tourism, M Prithiviraj, Thanga MLA-T Mangibabu, Fishery Minister- Abdul Nasir, Moirang Municipal Council Chairperson-Th Rajen.

Man stabbed to death, another injured over obnoxious remarks

IMPHAL, December 6: In a bizarre incident, a man stabbed two individuals killing one over obnoxious jokes of his divorce today at Yairipok Kakmayai Khunjin under Nongpok Sekmai Police station,

IMPHAL, December 6: In a bizarre incident, a man stabbed two individuals killing one over obnoxious jokes of his divorce today at Yairipok Kakmayai Khunjin under Nongpok Sekmai Police station, Thoubal district.

Meanwhile, angry mob torched the residence of the accused identified as one Shamurailatpam Shyamkesho Sharma, 35, son of Sh Momodon Sharma of Kakmayai Mayai Leikai.

The deceased has been identified as one Mutum Amumacha Singh, 35, son of Late M Modhumacha Singh of Kakmayai Maning Leikai while the injured has been identified as one Sairem Poireiton Singh, 36, son of Late S Bari Singh of Kakmayai Mayai Leikai.

According to police report the incident occurred around 12.30 pm when the Amumacha along with the victims and some other friends were partying at Kakmayai Khunjin.

As the accused was passing along the place where Amumacha and friends were partying, the latter group under the influence of alcohol made fun of him using obnoxious remark with regards to his recent divorce, said the police.

It is leant that the accused got divorce from his wife recently.

Perturbed by the remark the accused brought a knife allegedly attacked the gathering injuring two of them.

Amumacha sustained stab injury on his left shoulder while Poireiton escaped with minor injury, said the report.

Moments later, the locals reportedly evacuated Amumacha to Yairipok Community Health Centre after found lying at the partying area.

Enrage by the incident, the locals severely trash Shyamkesho before setting his residence on fire.

In the meantime, police rushed to the area rescued the accused from the angry mob and pacify the crowd.

The lifeless body of the deceased has been deposited at the JNIMS.

While a case has been registered by the police, the knife allegedly used during the attack could not be recovered till the filing of this report.
