Today, the environment we are living with is not how it used to be few hundred years back. Man advanced in various fields, leading to a more prosperous civilization which is better than the previous one. From a cave dweller to a gatherer or to a famer, we have evolved in this many a years. But, with the advance of the society, man evolved and modified its surrounding for its better use and better living mounting an extra burden on the environment where he lives. More the advance the society it got, more the compromise the environment and the other creatures apart of human have to make. It is the day of 2018 where we are now, where the compromise has to be made by the one who is inferior to the mighty or the mightiest.

How long will catchy slogans & acronyms keep people’s hopes alive? How long will catchy slogans & acronyms keep people’s hopes alive?

Positive India to Progressive India. Cool. Hope it’s not a kind of progression tantamount to a situation where an HIV positive person’s infirmity gets progressive with each passing day. Look East Policy to Act East Policy, a policy which is being looked upon many a times but not acted upon. Cash to cashless or Digital India affecting lives of many living in the rural areas where electricity supply don’t reach. Imphal rapidly progressing from a ‘to be’ Smart City to a Clumsy City, one of the worst unplanned city in India. Four lane highway, many a times we have heard, however, we’ve begun to doubt whether it will materialise during our lifetime. Crores and crores of rupees for development of National Highways of Manipur, but so far, the two highways i.e. Imphal- Dimapur & Imphal-Silchar are still in a deplorable and pitiable condition.

Despite stolen dreams

Being from the hill originally, it’s easy for me to fall in love with books written by authors from the hills. Anita Krishan is one among such authors to me, for she was born and brought up in Shimla and spent twenty-two years of her younger life in the pristine town in the foothill of Himalaya. She is now resided in Delhi-NCR where I met her for the first time on a fine sunny winter morning two years ago, for a conversation revolving around her second book Fluffy & Me, a tender autobiography based on her childhood friendship with her dog named Fluffy. The book made me feel. This year she comes out with her third book Despite Stolen Dreams with full of feelings.

Use Swachhata App to make Imphal No 1 for Swachh Survekshan 2018

Mahatma Gandhi said, “ The lethargy of government has for too long allowed us to be inured to unhygienic spaces outside our immediate homes, although every Indian must accept the blame for his own slovenliness in public spaces. The garbage bag, the dumpster trucks and landfills can be better monitored to ensure better results. To give the next generation a cleaner India is a task we cannot duck anymore. The time for action began the minute the photo opportunities with politicians and bureaucrats got over.

The call that can’t be turned down

Attending nature’s call is something which is most coherent in the life of all living beings besides so called highly intelligent human beings. In our day-to-day life, for advantageous ways of carrying out various duties and activities, appropriate management is more relevant and important at present than those used to be in the past.

Live@MDU: New live act with same old amazing vibes

The end of the year, a chance where we can all reflect on the past 12 months, and when it comes to the world of rock music lovers, we also need to remember all the gigs that came out. Some good, some bad and few great, but the Friday Night Live of 22nd December 2017 seemed to make sense for the first time in Imphal city when Chumthang Entertainment gave birth to a new live music venture entitled ‘Live@MDU’ at the adorned MDU Hall, Yaiskul with a line-up featuring four amazing new acts from the city.

Let this new year kill your new fears

Hey! Happy new Year! 2018 – must have already packeted with plans; dieting from the first of January, gymming non-stop, studying hard and what so ever. Weren’t you planning the same last year too? Did it work? No. You preconditioned yourself with a whole idea that ‘turning point of life’ is related to some ‘date and time’ of the year, this will bubble you forever into procrastinating your success. It’s not the time of the year but the time when your heart decides to fulfill the hunger for change. Try changing yourself not because it’s the first day of the year but it’s the day you long to yearn change.

Mumbai: The city of dreams

“The things that you are passionate about are not random, they are calling you”- Anonymous.
If you are passionate about something in life, we cannot suppress that feeling as it will bounce back to your life no matter how you are busy. But what one really needs to do is not to let the passion and dreams die inside your heart; one must discover and nurture it. Writing has been my passion since my childhood.

Happy new year to State lovers

Silhouetting ‘State’ is a paramount difficulty these days. We were taught in the schools and colleges that a ‘State’ (Country) must have a defined territory; it should have a population; it must be independent & sovereign and it ought to have a government, so on and so forth. We have another kind of ‘state’ which exists within a ‘State’. State with capital letter ‘S’ represents a Country (a nation); whereas the ‘state’ with a small letter ‘s’ stands for a smaller territorial entity somewhat autonomous within a ‘State’.

New year, new me : Re-designing self

“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves” – Bill Vaughn, American Columnist & Author. The thought of New Year excites everyone. There are anticipations that surround the unfolding of a New Year. In some remote form, everyone thinks of a “New Self” at the unfolding of New Year. The former will be tedious and ongoing, while the latter is a matter of count and replacing the old calendar with a new one.

I was born healthy, I wanna die healthy too

First of all I give my heartfelt empathy to those born with deformity. Luckily, I was born normal. Every elders known to me commented later on that when I was a toddler I was known for my plump looking body and I still can faintly remember many elders pinching my cheeks saying what a lovely, healthy and strong kid I was. My mom used to tell me many times, “I gave birth to you healthy and stout, now look what you have become. You look so gaunt and thin like a malnourished simian from another galaxy. It’s not my fault. It’s your own doing. It’s your attitude that makes you what you are now”.

The year 2017 has gone and now we are in the New Year, 2018. The year 2017 was a significant year of integrity of all Manipuri/Kangleicha, all the people of the hill and the valley. The festivals of Mera Hou Chongba, NIngol Chakkouba and Sangai festival play big roles in bringing integrity of different communities like Meitei, Meitei Pangal, Naga and Kuki communities. In many places, both in the hill and the valley districts, the people from all communities gather together eating and drinking together. Actually, the year 2017 was the one of the most memorable years, forget about all the communities mentioned above, even the Security battalions such as Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF and so and so organised the Ningol Chakkouba. The Manipur Baptist Convention also celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba festival at Manipur Baptist Centre Church, Chingmeirong, Imphal. In the year 2017, the Sangai Festival also played a significant role in promoting integrity of Manipuris. Many people from tribal communities represented in the festival and performed traditional and cultural dances. (This year, a Forest Guard was killed in Nepal Border by mining mafia, a Range Officer killed in Chhattisgarh by jungle mafia, a DFO was nearly killed in Jammu by timber mafia, and there are countless incidents of assaults on forest personnels and wrongful confinement of our officials even by the authority. Last year also, there have been killings of forest guards by wild animals in Ranthambhore and Nilgiris. This article is a tribute to those unsung heroes who laid down their lives for the cause of forest and environment)
This article is not going to talk about the architects of forestry in the country like Brandis, Schlich or Champion, nor on Maneka Gandhi who ushered in the Forest Conservation Act, the landmark Act which is the most effective tool for forest protection. This article is not going to talk neither about Sunderlal Bahuguna for his Chipko or MedhaPatkar for her Narmada BachaoAndolan. They have all been applauded for their efforts and contributions and glorified, they have become popular figures. Today, let us talk about the people who played a great role in conserving our forest and environment but least talked about, forget appreciating them.

A costly peace deal

With the signing of a peace agreement between GOI and NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015, an atmosphere of uncertainty and apprehension is looming over Assam, Arunachal and Manipur in particular. One party is very much joyful regarding the ending of a decade long political talk; however the neighbouring states are quite nervous that the agreement will be harmful to their territory and political interests. So far, as seen from the apprehension of many state governments and CSO’s, the peace agreement is proving to be more exciting than expected and planned. Before the full-fledged agreement ever sees light, a cloud of fear, distrust is already alarming many. It will be doubtful to decide how much the agreement will be harmful or not in terms of safeguarding state interests and values of those that may be presumed fragmented.
